Well I haven't posted on here in a long time because I've been busy, especially with school and college applications. So far I've been accepted into two college, and one of them is one of my top chioces: Lake Erie College.

My other top choice is U Maine at Orono. But Every one is telling me that I will most likely get into UMO.

What I want to go to school for is to be an Equine Theriogenologist: in normal terms, an Equine Veterinary Reproduction Specialist. This requires the 8 years of vet education, a residency, plus a test to take from the (American) College of Theriogenologists to become a certified specialist.

So basically the point of this post is to ask those of you who live in Ohio, and/or those of you that know about the college to tell me some stuff. Like about the college, about the state (weather, farms(maybe your location in relevance to the college[which is in Painesville]), things to do (especially horsey related things), etc. Any and all help will be appreciated. I actually first learned about LEC through a college special of Horse Illustrated like 7+ years ago, and for the longest time it was like "that is the ONLY college I am even going to look at" blah blah, you know how we kids can get, but now I've also really gotten to like UMaine Orono, plus it's much closer to my family. But we are going to visit LEC in April i think.

BUt any ways, sorry for the ramble lol.

Thank you very much.

I don't know much about the college except a lady I work with son goes there, he got a full scholarship and plays on the football team. He really likes it.

As far as the weather, they get tons of snow (my parents live less than an hour south of Erie) until the lake freezes. The lake is pretty. There are bad parts of the city (as is any city) but overall I think it's nice there.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

I don't live in Ohio so I cant tell you much about the area, however I can tell you that they give away NICE scholarships. I was offered a full ride scholarship to lake Erie during my senior year of high school, and honestly, no other school offered me that. At the time I had a 3.7 GPA, was actively involved in equine 4H, and showed horses. Like an idiot I didnt go to lake erie because at the time they only offered english riding, and I rode western. At the time my plan was to wait a year and go to he university of findlay since they offer western, but that never happened. I guess my point is that if money has anything to do with what school you choose to go to, lake erie is generous with scholarships.

The funny thing is the college is not near Lake Erie at all, i little less then an hour from cedar point which is right on the lake. Lake erie college is down in Painsville which is about 2.5 hours SE of me..so its not near Sandusky / Lake Erie at all.

I have a friend who i went threw high school with and FFA, she is at Lake Erie college for Equine too, i've been down to visit her a few times and the college is very nice, the barns are nice and the classes are small to.

Findlay is another good college near this area, closer to me then Sandusky is actually. They have a GOOD program in equine too, my cusion graduated from Findlay equine college too. I have a friend, who graduates high school this year, that is planning ot attend Findlay next year. My dad sent a mare to them to be trained about 4 years ago...

I just figured the college was in Erie, PA...Painesville, OH is west of Erie probably about an hour or so...closer to Cleveland than Erie probably. Still snowbelt area probably. My coworkers son really likes it there...I do not like the Cleveland area though, Painsesville is on the outskirts of Cleveland. Like someone else mentioned, they are generous with scholorships, my niece was offered one for swimming there, but she denied it.

Hi! I live VERY close to lake erie, and half of the girls at the barn I board at go there. They all love it! Everyone is very nice and down to earth. They are also very helpfull. Most of them come from nice backgrounds and are easy to get along with. The barns are very nice, from what I've seen. But I also heard that it is sorta expensive, but very nice. Also the instructors I've met are super nice and helpfull! I dont know if everyone gets to, but a friend of mine got to go on a trip for about a month or so to I think Europe and for sure Ireland. I think you get to go when you graduate. The schhol is big on english ridding and jumping or hunter, I havent really met anyone that rides western adn goes there, but I'm sure you could! The weather I could do without, Its not terrible but I personally hate snow! Also if you dont want to keep your horse at the college there are very nice barns around the area, its what most of the students go. The area of the college is the Little city of Painesville. But the college is very prestine and well known. It is also very pretty! I drive by ALOT! I'm actually thinking about going there. Look it up, heres a link with costs and everything. href="http://tinypic.com" target="_blank"> hope this works! and helps!! you can pm me if youd like to know anything else!

Hi. I dont know much about Lake Erie College either but I know my niece is looking into it for equine Chiropractic (sp?) Not sure how good their pre-vet program is but I went to The University of Findlay for pre-vet. If ur wanting to get into vet school that is one school you should really look into. I LOVED it there. They have a 60% exceptence rate into vet school and they work really well with you to help u get in. They also have awsome hands on experiance with large animals. I know thats not what u were wanting to hear about but I know what its like to go threw and pick colleges and this is one school I didnt even think about going to untill the last min. when they ended up giveing me the best scholorship of all the colleges I applied to. I jsut thought I would throw out another college that you should really look into if being a vet is what u are wanting to do.

Another thought, maybe check into Ohio State ATI as they have a really nice equine program too, they are located down around Ashland Ohio in the amish community, its a branch of Ohio State, just the agriculture branch. I got in and planned to attend but decided i need a few years off
