This information all so applies to those with minis that pull the big trailers, Very informative article, and from a reliable source...Read the whole article, it is the law, and anyone who doubts it and gets pulled over, WILL be shut down on the spot until someone with a CDL can come drive your rig...I don't mean to scare anyone, just trying to make everyone aware of the LAW pertaining to horse trailers, and the vehicles that pull them...don't think because you don't have a dually, you are safe...not necessarily so...but the article will clear up a lot...Good reading....

Just informed my friend who's heading to nationals with a 12 horse monster rig pulled by a huge 4 door truck!

Thanks for the info!

thanks for the information didnt know any of that about horse trailers and CDL's!

Please pass this information on to all you know that pull horse trailers! Those that pull the big trailers with the living quarters are sometimes under the impression that they don't count and won't be pulled over....WRONG if it has horses in the trailer, the laws define you as a HORSE TRAILER and you will be ticketed for each offense you are liable for. And as stated in the article you will be shut down on the spot...until a driver with a CDL can come and drive your rig, or you will be escorted to your home border if close enough, as stated by the woman from WI...It is hard enough to make a go of it with horses, now the government, and state officials think they need their pound of flesh too...please be aware of all the current regulations, and rules for your state, as well as the states you travel through. Don't be sitting on the side of the road for HOURS in the heat, waiting for someone to come help you out...It can happen to you!

Due to these strict regulations we chose to shut our transport business down...we couldn't afford the 750,000.00 insurance.....who can?

750,000 worth of insurance is just insane, unless you are a huge corporation, the "little guy" cant afford that.

I'm confused....the $750000 is the minimum coverage required, not what you actually pay? How expensive is that amount of coverage??

I have $2 million in liability insurance on my tow vehicle (I thought I had half that so obviously I increased it and forgot!). If I were going into the US I would have it at $3 million.
