If I use a horse and pony tape to figure my pony's weight I get 448. If I use the formula posted in the "Best Of The Miniature Horse Forum" I get 397. Which one would you consider more accurate? She is an 11-2 hh mare. Trying to get a better handle on her weight for deworming/feeding purposes.

Has anyone used the formula and then been able to test it on a scale? Or is this formula only good for mini's?

Thanks for your help.

Just average them. Neither are very far off for the purposes you are using it for.

She's apparently around 400 lbs.

Thanks DH for your reply. I found another formula for calculating the weight of a horse and I came up with 499 lbs!!! LOL. So I've got a range of 397 to 499 :bgrin I guess the only definitive way is to get her to a scale. For now, I will err on the side of caution and go with the 400. Now I just have to figure out how to get her someplace to weigh her.
