I did Clipping of Bridle Paths tell me is this how short to do them for shows or do they need to be shorter.

Thanks I think I did better on my new mares then my other horses I did . I hope to show my 9 year old mare Treasure in Halter, Driving (Once Trained of course), and Liberty but not sure how to get my mare to stay moving as I cant even get her to run whats yalls opions.

It would be easier to really tell if next time you would take pictures of them with their heads up. I like the length you have chosen for both of them. Next I would trip up the bottom of Treasure's mane a little bit and get the scraggly end hairs off which will give it a more neat appearance. Same with the pinto. Get the dead ends off of the bottom, just a little. You're doing very well!

The goal in clipping a bridlepath is to enhance the look of the neck so what is "correct" is going to be different for every horse; you want to cut it so the neck appears nicely curved, the throatlatch is clearly visible and the shoulder is not obscured. A halter horse is also going to require a slightly different trim than a driving horse as halter horses are usually cut very far back and thinned to almost nothing in order to show the horse's outline clearly and make them look upheaded. Since I have driving horses and like a fuller look I leave a little more mane going up the crest to enhance the appearance of the arched neck but thin it at the front so it lifts slightly and flows back to show the throatlatch and lower neck when moving. I've noticed that when it comes to that last inch or so on a mini sometimes a fraction of a lock cut off can make the difference between "not enough" and "just right."

In general it's better to leave too much mane and trim more later than to cut off a big section and then realize you took too much.

On the plus side, minis grow hair like crazy so you can probably grow it out over the winter and have it back by next spring!

I agree with Marty that you'll need to reduce the length on the second mini's mane now- having it short from front to back but so thick and long from top to bottom throws off the proportions of her neck. Get a set of thinning shears or use a pair of regular scissors to feather up into the mane (don't cut straight across the bottom!) and slowly shorten it. Stand back frequently to check your work and always leave a little more than you think you're going to want. As the mane gets lighter it will bounce up and seem even shorter. Then you can do a little undercutting on her mane to reduce the overall volume and it should look better.

Ok I hope to show treasure in halter, Liberty (MAYBE), and later on driving once shes trained. rosie the 2nd horse has bad teeth so not sure if she is a loud to show as shes a AMHA and AMHR.

Treasure looks great... It really shows off her nice length of neck and her overall conformation. For Rosie, I would shorten her mane length. It would make her head, neck and shoulder look more in porportion.

Ok thanks can rosie been shown if so which show as shes a AMHA and AMHR mare with great lineand she got color to boot and got conformation to.

"Rose" has a lovely head, large expressive eyes and is a daughter of World Champion 28" and under "Sunrise Hill Desert Serenade". Her Dam is a daughter of Champion Producer "Brewers Orion Starfire".

ok what do you do in performance classes.

And I will try to get better pics of Rosie as shes easy to get her head up but treasure is pushy and is not payshent at all so were training her to whao, and stand quitleey as she hates being still but so far nothing has worked to get her to stand still when asked what's best to train her to stand quitely and not move or be pushy. would love a video of some one teaching them and plus i'm in a wheele chair to.

Here's Update pics of Treasure with her head up same with Rosie and I braided there mane and tail today too.

let me know if I need beter pics of them as i will be geting beter ones probley this weekend as its been a bessy week for me as of school and trying to find hay luckely we found so good horse quilely hay too. and a lady is surposed to come look at my unreg mare and her 2011 filly tomorrow so been a crazy week so far for me and my horses.

I remember a topic before on this forum and the guideline was the length of the ear, when you pull the ear back. Maybe that wasn't for miniatures, however I usually will not take as much off as you have unless I had a "bad spot" which I often do when my horsres get reaching through the board fence

The length of the ear is a good guideline for just a regular on the farm bridle path, but probably wont work for show horses.

Here is an example of my mares' bridle path........prepped by my trainer. Note how the first one is shaved much longer and that is to give her the illusion of a longer neck. I think you did a fantastic job.
