EXCUSE MY TYPING MY VISION IS BAD.

I WAS MOUNTING AND THE HORSE STARTED WALKING BEFORE I HAD MY FOOT IN THE STIRRUP. HE WENT UNDER A TREE, A BRANCH PUSHED ME BACK IN THE SADDLE. THE BRANCH SNAPPED AND HIT HIM AND AWAY HE WENT AND I LANDED ON MY BACK ON THE PAVEMENT. THE HORSE IS FINE BUT I ONLY HAD HIM A SHORT TIME AND HE WAS FOR MY HUSBAND. HE IS GOING BACK TO THE WOMAN I BOUGHT HIM FROM AS MY HUSBAND NOW HAS STATED AFTER SEEING WHAT I AM GOING THROUGH, HEV WILL NEVER GET ON A HORSE AGAIN. THANKS FOR THE REPLIES. OMG Niki - how terrible. I just got home late last night from out of town and I got your message with the correct email. I am going to get the pics/video to you today. I'm going to try to do it from work (they have high speed). I don't think a video will go from my dial up (too slow). I'll try to call you this afternoon once I get to work.

I bet you are in terrible pain. My sister got thrown from a horse years ago (was my horse as a matter of fact) and she broke her neck. They put her in one of those halo things. I can't even imagine the pain you are going through.

: I was telling my Hubby last night about your accident and he reminded me that is why we don't have horses...we made that decision 6 years ago when we adopted our donkeys. I really wanted a horse..but having a horse and NOT having health insurance doesn't mix. We still don't have health insurance and at my age I don't see a future of ever owning a horse. I totally understand your husbands descision about the horse. How is your little girl doing with Mommy in the hospital...does she still like horses? Wishing you a comfortable day, Teri

Oh Nikki, how horrible for you! I can't imagine the pain you are in, or how traumatic an experience this has been for you. Thank heavens that you were wearing a helmet, and survived!

Oh, Nikki. I've been there. Luckily, I bounced and didn't break anything. But, I was bed ridden for several days and it took me months before I could even climb a step ladder much less get back on a horse. And once I was able to get back on a horse I realized I was too afraid of what the next injury would be. You see that was my 2nd spinal injury and I wasn't going to let a 3rd end me. You're very lucky you will be walking again.

And that is why I now have the ponies!

It's ruined my back even though I was in my mid 20's when it occured. I've had to get a special bed (Sleep Number) for my back and every day my back and pelvis reminds me about that fall. I will never have a pain free back again. Good luck and take care of yourself!

HI, ANOTHER DAY. I TRY TO KEEP MY MIND ON OTHER THINGS BUT IT IS HARD. I MISS MY CHILDREN SOOO MUCH. IT MAKES THE HURT EVEN WORSE! MY HUSBAND IS STARTING TO BREAK A LITTLE I THINK. IT IS ALOT OF WORK TO TAKE CARE OF EVERYTHING AND THE KIDS.

WE HAD JUST MADE A DECISION A COUPLE WEEKS AGO FOR MY HUSBAND TO TAKE A NEW JOB AT THE PLANT HE WORKS AT. IT IS FOR AN APPRENTICSHIP TO BE A MECHANIC. IT WAS A HUGE CUT IN PAY AND SHCOOLING 2 NIGHTS A WEEK. WE HAD FIGURED WITH MY INCOME WE WOULD BE FINE AND AFTER THE 2 YEARS OF TRAINING AND A BIG PAY INCREASE, IT WOULD ALL BE WORTH IT. I GUESS IT WASN'T A GOOD CHOICE RIGHT NOW. :no: HOW WERE WE TO KNOW. I AM TRYING TO BE POSITIVE BUT SOMEDAYS IT IS HARD WHEN I THINK OF EVERYTHING.

THEY STARTED ME TONIGHT ON A NEW DRUG FOR NERVE PAIN SO MAYBE THIS WILL HELP SOME.I SO WANT TO BE HOME AND OUT OF HERE! I AM AN EMOTIONAL RECK! I AM GLAD I HAVE YOU ALL TO TALK TO.

Are your children unable to visit you, or just not very often? I bet that is so very difficult for you, I'm sorry.

Is there anyone who can help your husband with everything that needs to be done?

The mental distress you are under is probably nearly as bad as the physical pain sometimes.

THEY THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE TO STAY FOR 10 TO 14 WEEKS BUT I HAVE A LARGE HOME WITH NO STAIRS IN AND A BATH ROOM ON THE GROUND FLOOR THAT IS BIG. THEY FIGURE IF I CAN LEARN TO TRANFER MYSELF FROM BED TO WHEEL CHAIR AND OTHER TRANFERS THEN I COULD GO HOME TO FINISH MY REHAB. THEY HAVE MADE THE LIST OF WHAT MY HOUSE WILL NEED, HOSPITAL BED , WHEELCHAIR, SPECIAL BATH BENCH, ECT.... I GUESS ONCE I CAN DO THESE THINGS WELL AND MY PAIN IS CONTROLLED I CAN GO HOME. PUBLIC HEALTH NURSES AND REHAB PEOPLE WILL THEN WORK FROM MY HOUSE. THEY ARE THINKING A COUPLE MORE WEEKS

. I GUESS THAT IS BETTER THEN MONTHS.

AND YES THE MENTAL PART IS AS BAD AS THE PHYSICAL PAIN AT TIMES. MY HUSBAND HAS TO WORK AS HE DOESN'T GET PAID SICK LEAVE BUT HE WILL BE ABLE TO COME ON SAT.

PEOPLE HAVE BEEN GOOD ABOUT HELPING BUT NOW THAT HE IS HOME HE IS DOING IT ALL. THANK GOODNESS WE HAD SOMEONE TO HELP THAT FIRST WEEK! NIKKI

A THREE DAY HOSPITAL STAY. I LANDED SQUARE ON TOP OF MY HEAD ON A HUGE FLAT ROCK. NO

HELMENT, AND THEY NEVER COULD FIGURE OUT HOW I DIDN'T BREAK ANYTHING. .....BUT FOR TWO DAYS

I HAD NO IDEA WHO ANYBODY WAS. MY HUBBY AT THE TIME SAID I CALLED HIM ABOUT 14 TIMES

THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT ASKING HIM IF HE WAS SURE I WAS MARRIED TO HIM. HE LEFT ME A BUNCH

OF PHONE #'S OF PEOPLE I KNEW (SO HE SAID :bgrin ) AND I HEAR I PESTERED ALL OF THEM FOR TWO

DAYS ALSO. I FINALLY GOT THE MEMORY BACK, BUT STILL TO THIS DAY, DON'T RECALL ANYTHING

THAT HAPPENED THE DAY OF THE ACCIDENT. DOCTORS SAID IT WOULD COME BACK IN BITS AND

PIECES, BUT IT NEVER HAS. THAT'S PROBABLY A GOOD THING!

Nikki, you are SO lucky to be alive.

: I know that it is natural to feel sorry for yourself at times, when you are so incapacitated like you currently are, but yes please do remember how lucky you are as well. Things could have been so much worse. Your husband and children still have their wife and mother, and you will recover and be able to do most of the things that you used to do. (how about NO more horse-back riding tho!) Life is priceless, and you are still here to enjoy it.

And please don't feel guilty about "all the trouble" you are causing.... you know that you would do the same for someone who needed it. Though it is surely difficult for all at times, everyone's gratitude that you are alive and doing so well surely is the greatest emotion that they feel.
