psyllium for use as a laxative, specifically for clearing sand out of horses' intestines to minimize the chances of sand colic. But new research indicates there might be another use for the phytogenic (plant-based) supplement: the control of blood glucose and insulin concentrations.

Oh my Gosh! thank you this article is right on time, I have some in my fridge that I feed from time to time to a mare that likes to lick up dirt. I'm now going to give some to my 28 year old welsh arab that is slow to shed out this year, maybe it will help. The Vet is coming to test for cushings but in the meantime maybe this will help. Thank You

Thank you so much for posting this. I am taking our IR mare off of Remission because it seems to quiet her down too much. I saw an almost immediate positive effect on her driving performance but, of course, worry about founder. I might try this, since I already have Sand Clear on hand. And the psyllium should not affect her performance.
