The Alabama Miniature Horse Club is planning a family fun show for next spring and would like to have several classes for the youth in our club. However, we are having a hard time thinking of new classes other than the usual costume class or barrel racing. Please help!!!!

Ribbon game or even ugh cant rember what its called you run the barrel pattern but gotta drop a flag in a bucket.. fastest one wins.. How bout bribe a horse lol thats a good one

I always thought and have not seen this yet at any shows, is a Trick class, where people bring their own props and have them and their horse do 1 - 3 special tricks that they have taught their horse, can be bowing, kissing, shake a leg etc. or use a prop to do something, of their choice.

This would be fun to show the audience and something different.

You could set up a trail in hand class, were the kids go over and through obstacles. Also if some one has a stop watch a couple of cones for the start and a barrel you can have a hat race. The kids would start between the two cones, race down to the barrel and take a cowboy hat from the barrel, put it on their head and race back, timed, sort of the same thing as flag race. A class they can do without a horse is boot race. You place everyones boots down where the barrel was and all the kids race down there at once and put their boots on, then run back, first one back with his/her boots on wins. Egg & spoon, kids have to walk around the ring leading their horses on their left with an egg in a spoon in their left hand, if they drop the egg they are out. If several kids still have their egg have them trot, that usually gets your winner.

ribbon race includes either 2 riders or 2 handlers with a crep paper ribbion held between them.. yoou have to run some kind of pattern without breaking the ribbon.. fastest time wins

fun classes for minis in hand is hard to come up with. One other class we used to do at 4-h was a cake walk, where someone picked a spot before the class where the winner would stop, of course the people in the class don't know the spot. You walk around the ring with your horse to music then Simon says stop, if not one is near the spot you walk again, this keeps going on until when stop is called there is a person and horse stopped at the picked spot. This person wins a home made cake.

What is Treat and Eat and Ribbon Game??? We are new at this show stuff.
Treat and eat is where you stand on one side of the arena and a show person stands at the other end and you and your horse must run to the other end where the horse is fed a treat. You aren't allowed to run back until the horse has finished the treat. More of an eating contest (speed eating) and how fast your horse can run on a lead.

We do Barrel Racing, Flag Race, Pole Bending, and Keyhole. We have had Egg n Spoon and Ride a Buck as well. Also we have the normal trail classes and in hand jumping, but have added an Extreme Trail class. This has to be the one the exhibitors like the most. The trail pattern is decorated to theme of whatever our current show theme is. We add in as many scary objects as possible and of course a dress up item. Always have a funny hat the exhibitor has to put on. We have also had grass skirts and lais. We had plastic trick or treat pumpkins in the early October show and 3 different spots in the trail pattern to "trick or treat." Fourth of July was Flags to go around and carry. And label your trail sections as "Flamingo Pass" or "Pumpkin Patch" and even had a "Flag Row." We offer all the in hand classes for kids and adults to ride them under saddle as we are a Pony Club and not just for Miniatures. In Hand and Under Saddle place differently.

At a local mini fun show they had barrel racing in hand- we ran the barrel pattern leading our minis. It was really fun and most everyone could participate.

we just did a small fun show at my house and had these classes: barrel racing, pole bending, magazine race, knock down and out, gamblers choice obstacle, gamblers choice jumping, musical buckets, golf ball and spoon, liberty

What is knock down and out, and Gamblers Choice?

What is knock down and out, and Gamblers Choice?
I believe Gambler's choice is a set of jumps and ones that require more maneuvering or higher jumping are worth more points (a gamble) and whoever ends up with the most points wins

Wikipedia: An event where exhibitors choose their own course, with each fence cleared worth a given amount of points based on difficulty. The entry who accumulates the most points within a set time limit on course is the winner.

You can also do fuzzy wuzzy classes for the furriest horse, longest mane, follow me: Set up a simple trail pattern (a few logs to walk over, two barrels that you have to walk between, weave cones). The horse is loose in the arena (you can leave halter on) and the person has some grain or a carrot, a bribe of some sort. The horse has to follow the person through the obstacles
