When we move I plan to put up wooden fencing at the new place. We have always used Locust or Cedar posts with wire-mesh fencing but I love that black board fencing! Here's my silly question

..... what is the wood painted with???

That would be Creosote.

It looks like blackish water and its a wood preservative. You paint it on and it will soak into the wood and cause a blackish stain. Easy and cheap to use and painting with it goes pretty fast but don't get it on your hands. Getit at any paint store, Lowe's, Home Depot etc,.

Thank you! I thought it was Creosote, with all the new regulations out there I figured it was illegal to use by now!

My dad use to used motor oil (yes illegal now - might have been when I was a kid too but that's my dad) (one part

anyhow - its not as dark as creosote and it almost looks like a med/dark brown stain when it drys but it does work.

both also help with wood chewers
