My two year old QH Gelding has a golfball sized bony lump on the left side of his jaw. It is noticable even with all his winter woolies. Today is the first time I have noticed anything on him. I have no idea what it could be, and my sister looked in all of our vet books and couldn't find anything. Does anyone know what it might be?

Thanks,

Nichole

The two things that come to mind are -- 1) a tooth problem, ie a cap needs to be removed to allow his adult tooth to grow so it isn't impacted.....or 2) Strangles - which is the the more serious possibility.

Either way, your vet will be able to help.

It sounds to me like he has a cap that needs to be removed so his other teeth can come in. It could be strangles, but that isn't usually on the bony part of the jaw (I think, it's been a long time since I've been around strangles). Either way you will probably have to have your vet out to help you with it.
