What are the chances of a breeding stallion who was not cryptorchid in his younger years to become cryptorchid later on (10-13 years old)? Has anyone had that happen before? Please share your opinions and experiences.

When our stallion was being shown he contracted strangles and had a high fever. One of his boys shrank to the size of a lima bean, but the other one has increased in size. Our vet said to breed him to see if he was still furtile, and he is, so it hasn't effected him in that regard. He still has both, just that one is now real tiny, vet says they can shrink like that from high fever or injury.

Once they are 'down' through the ring, they do not go back up through it, so if your stallion truly did have both down at some point in his life, he is not a cryptorchid. As Riverrose said, probably due to an injury (a well-placed kick by a mare??) or some sort of illness causing fever.
