We are still trying to find out what color our little filly is, can anyone help? She does have white hairs threw out her coat on her back.

Pictures before her clip would probably help too.

Here is a pre clipping picture. Her mane looks black to me but her tail it light. Her dam is listed as Blue Roan but I do not think that is right. I had someone else look at the dam and this is the response I got.

"The mare appears to be a black with the grey gene - A blue roan will have a jet black head and legs with no white hairs at all in the black color......she also appears to have the sabino gene - which can also cause roaning all over the body including the head if she is not grey - that explains the big white blaze and socks."

Dam is in the background of the picture but she is all shread out now and appears to be black with with hair threw out.

And sire is black bay pinto.

She looks like a silver black sabino. Pretty girl!

Hmmm, unless the dam is black silver (which could be possible as the graying would change the appearance of that color) she cannot be black silver. She may just be a really light black foal. I had one of those. His mane was really black even when he was first born so I knew he was black not black silver.

I guess i have never seen a black horse that light unless silver or sabino were making it so. Sabino can sometimes give the illusion of silver but after seeing the last picture of her I would say silver black. Is the dam really grey or is she sabino? How old is she and do you have another picture of her?

Just read that the dam is black with white hairs throughout and i'm guessing she's most likely sabino with no silver so the foal is black sabino which gives the illusion of silver. Crponies, most black foals are born a muddled black/grey color because it is a defense mechanism (they'd need to hide in the wilderness), but this foal is much lighter than that usual foal black. I agree with others that she is black sabino.

With out seeing the mom I will say the foal is going grey, and this from the rings around the eyes, and the white starting on her rump and upper back which is pretty common in grey horses. That said the pre clipped pic she looks silver black.

What color is the sire?

Ok I ran out and got some pictures of mom. Not the best. The dam is 4.

Ok mom is sabino so the foal can not be grey. Thus must be sabino as well.
