I measured my two month old colt @17 inches. Using the growth chart calculations, he should mature @ 22-23 inches?!? Thanks

In my experience, the growth charts are prone to be "off" but 17" does sound pretty small for his age. What did he measure at birth?

Are you sure he wasn't squirming around and it's easy to measure off an inch or two when that happens, also surface/position of the horse as well as the measuring tool itself can make a difference.

Honestly, I have not known of very many Minis that have matured at that height, unless they were afflicted by a dwarf gene.

I would say to take the growth charts w/a grain of salt. I've had them wrong both ways, as one I measured as a yearling the charts said he would be 39" tall, however he is permanent and 6 years of age @33.50", and yet another said my mare would be 32.50" yet she is now 31.50" and 5 years old/perm.

Good luck w/your boy!

I'd love to see a picture of the little guy!!

My height chart has always been right for me, but I did use it on older horses...it will guestimate height for up to a 3yr old and it was right on the nail for my 2 yearlings and almost 3yr old! It guestimates by current height and age in months.

My chart too says your little guy will mature around 22" give or take .5"

and I too would LOVE to see a photo! I love the tinies!

The height chart for the MOST part, has been good for me too. The cannon bone thing you need to do shortly after birth.

Wow, that is TINY!!!??

Actually no you dont.

I have always used this method it is fairly accurate. If you go do it on your adult horses more likely then not its pretty darn close to there actual height. The cannon bone doesnt grow.

Yep that is why in most cases the cannon bone measurement is pretty accurate and why it works
