I am exhausted but he is here. Last night at about 9:30(was watching American Idol) I peeked out the window to check on Peach and she was down in the corner of the pasture and she was pushing hard. I grabbed my video camera and towels and ran. Well good thing. First off, the amnion hadn't broken and she had gotten up and laid down again with baby pointing at the pagewire fence. So, I grabbed Peach and pulled her away from the fence and broke the sack. Then the next problem. I saw a foot and a head but was missing a foot. She already had the whole head out and no foot!! Between contractions I pushed the head back in and felt for the knee. It took a few times and then I finally got his foot forward and gave a little help and out he popped. It was scarey and exhilirating!! He was laying in the cold wet grass so I wrapped him up and carried him to the shelter and hay. Peach had a hard time passing the placenta. It took her almost 2 hours and then she was so tired she shook for a long time but baby found the milk bar and drank heartily. All seems well today and the sun is shining so that is good! I am so relieved that I was there to help or we would have lost him and probably Peach too! Just had to share. I will take pictures today of him and post them when my new computer is set up tonight. He is a sweet baby colt. Too bad about the plumbing but I am just glad that all is well.
