I should just hand over my bank account.

Don't know since I don't know how much that is in dollars. Can you convert?

I used an online converter,

425.00 CHF = 395.274 USD

and

425.00 CHF = 442.889 CAD

I havn't had a horse in years so i don't know if that is out of line or not. How many animals did you have done?

I think that is WAY too high!

In February I had my vet out and she fully vaccinated 15 horses and floated the teeth on 3 of them with sedation. And the total bill was around $700. I think that each teeth floating by itself was around $60.

The majority of the bill was the cost of the vaccinations themselves. I vaccinated for 5 way, WNV and Rabies.

Well you have to consider her location. SO who knows, but I would definitely be shopping my vets around to see if there is a better deal. For 3 sets of vacs and one float - that is a lot.

To do my herd, it is around $1200.00 for the spring upkeep.

Are there a lot of horses in your area?

You need to ask the people around you- vet prices vary wildly from region to region here in the US, I imagine it's even more true in other countries.

Only folks in your area can tell you if the cost is reasonable or not.

I will trade any of those for the one I just got for 4 days in the hospital $2500 plus five farm visits at $1000....all for a fever and shivering, of unknown origin. They did find a small ulcer in her duodenum and she is on Gastrogaurd for a month, but they cannot explain the fever. Blood work was fine, no erlichia and a nasal swab ($180) sent to check for strangles, etc came back negative...BUT at least she is home and feeling a lot better, draping herself across my other mini's back....little witch, lol.

For my neck of the woods that is in line...4 way shots cost 54 bucks a piece if the vet comes out to give them and the vets farm fee now is up to 180 bucks to come out. l buy my own from a place in town and do it myself so it's usually just half the cost of the vets shots. l know the floats were 70 a piece last fall but we hauled the minis in to have them done saving on the farm call. l swear my vet is getting richer by the day though she swears she is barely breaking even...

$180 just for the farm call!!! OMG! How do you afford it??

Mine charges me $20 for the farm call, then whatever else needs done. There is noooooo way I would be able to afford that!

All the more reason to haul them in to the vet yourself I guess.

interesting anwsers... I guess its not bad , it was just 1 horse and 3 rabbies vacc. My bloodwork and pregnancy test today will cost me over 300.

i love my ponys , and i try to do what ever it takes ,.

20bucks OMG you are lucky I pay normally about 85 bucks for them to drive exactly 1 mile.. and a emergency call is $150 for that same mile....

Vet fees really do vary according to where you live.

Here, three vaccinations and a dental float would be around $600 (yep!)

Wow 20 bucks for a call...l'd be giddy with happiness. My current vet at 180 for a farm call has to drive about 80k to get here anything after 9 in the evening for an emergency will run ya about 220 for the same distance. We try HARD not to have emergencies and the trailer is always ready to go in case..l still say vets are raking it in hand over fist because l noticed one time she was fairly close to me within 20K and the farm call was still 180 when l got the bill.

Im not so sure that is the case however even if it is not a problem with me although I hate and have a hard time paying it sometimes

It is a hard job, little time off, takes a physical and emotional toll- they put there own physical safety at risk on a daily basis - a good vet is worth any amount of money when an animal you love is in trouble.

I absolutely agree! My vets work around the clock, get up in the middle of the night sometimes for a colicky horse, and come back at 3 o'clock in the morning because it's not responding to treatment... travel as fast as they can in traffic from a far-away call somewhere else to tend to my horses in emergencies... I think *I* am a pretty good, responsible, knowledgeable horse owner but I KNOW that others they deal with are not... they have to deal with people upset in the loss of their horse, the stress of euthanizing horses, the stress of recommending a treatment that then unpredictably goes bad... they have to inject/treat/handle horses that are in pain, panic, or just plain have never been handled or are mistreated or aggressive... plenty of horses associate vets with BAD things so they have to be good enough horsepeople just to overcome THAT extra trouble...

I do hate paying a premium for my vets but I DO greatly respect them and it is always money well spent, for the well being of my horses!
