The colour 'Blue'

Please can someone explain to me the coat colour term 'blue' !

Is it not a dark grey, what would the base coat colour be - i know very little about coat colours as you can see !

I have a mare that is classed as a 'Blue/white Pintaloosa'

Hope someone can help

Blue is black hairs and white hairs intermingled.

The old folks around here used to call all grey's blue, and blue is usually used for black based roans, but it's almost always followed with the roan, Blue roan. But if you'd hear someone in my family call a horse just 'blue' it was usually a grey. For a 4 yr old kid, dad bringing home a blue pony was a memorable event

especially when during the first bath, he really looked blue!

blue can be a.black horse with roan or it could be a black horse going grey
