Wednesday I came home from work, found my mini stud standing in trees gasping and wheezing for breath. When I teathered him out, he walked listlessly about head hanging down. Then he laid. When vet came she examined but could find nothing wrong. Took him to the vet clinic next morning. Total exam and still they could find nothing wrong. Gave him an anti inflammatory and vitamin B 12. He still shows no signs of improvement. Please help.

My very first thought is: what are the trees he was standing under. This time of year and depending where you are it could be important.

I think you're doing what you can at the moment. You could try contacting a referal hospital that might have specialists that may be able to help. Some blood tests, fluids, etc might help at the moment but I'm sure the vet would have given them if they thought them useful. I hope he turns around and looks better today!

I would try another Vet who might have treated a horse with this condition or get him to a Vet hospital as there must be a reason for this condition and a treatment somewhere to help. JMO

Sounds like something toxic in his system. I would suspect a "chemical" that is robbing his blood of carrying oxygen sufficiently. Ask your vets to start testing aggressively!!!

Does he drink?

The type trees are to be considered as some will drop leaves and if eaten at wilt stage can be poisonous. He could have eaten some weeds, etc. This isn't normal -- don't let them stop looking.

This is ridiculous and I don't buy it. There is something horrible going on with your little horse and I highly suggest that you find anther vet and vet hospital for him right away. I would classify this as an emergency. This could be any number of things going on from eating something poisionous as suggested to a case of sleeping sickness, EPM, anything. I don't know what kind of exam was done by the vet but it surely was not enough to let him go with nothing more than what was done. I encourage you to seek another vet immediately.

I wish you much luck and best wishes for a very complete recovery soon.
