I've heard some people on the forum mention this as a fun way to see if a mare is pregnant. I'd like to try it for fun to see if its right when spring/summer comes. How do I do it?

Heather,

I use a piece of string and my wedding band, place string thru the

ring, and place over your mares hips, if it goes in a circle its a filly.

If it goes back and fourth its said to be a colt. I have done this the

last 3 years for fun, and it has been correct for me.

So good luck with your mares....

LOL. I do this for fun every year. Last year (and this) I just used a washer on a string (all I had handy lol) It was right on for who was bred and who was open but where it said filly I got a colt and where the results were for a colt a filly was born. This year I only had one mare covered, I believe she didn't settle and is open but the ring test says filly. I'm pretty sure she's open so I am not going to have her checked by a vet. If she is bred I guess it'll be pretty obvious later in her pregnancy ;).
