That is so neat! Love the costume! I would love to do that with one of my Minis, what did you need to do to get involved? Do they need to be certified therapy animals first?

To have an animal become a Reading Education Assistance Dog (no matter its species) the animal needs to be a registered therapy animal first as they do need to be covered by liability insurance.

Then one needs to purchase the workbook directly from R.E.A.D. (www.therapyanimals.org) and go through it and answer the test in the back. Then you mail the test and a copy of your proof of therapy registration and a check.

If you pass it is a lifetime membership and only costs a little bit more per animal.

Each animal gets a membership card & a red rubber tag with the READ logo on it.

Each time you renew your therapy registration with whatever organization you are associated with you need to mail a copy of the animal's badge with expiration date clearly seen to READ.
