neck sweat on a yearling

l was told to sweat a yearlings neck but find it hard to accept starting one at that age it isn't thick but not pencil thin either. ls this a common practice??

We sweat all of our horses necks that we show. We sweat yearlings necks all the time. It helps make the neck look nicer and thins the neck up. If your horses neck is already thin you might not to sweat it.
