What do you call yourselves? I get so sick of listing my job as miniature horse breeder. I am way more than that. I breed them, show them, promote them, & put my heart and soul into the miniature breed. I am a person with a dream to produce some of the fanciest buckskin miniatures in the world.

I've just been asked to tell my high school class what my career is so does anyone have any ideas of how I could word this?

great question Deb. It is hard for me too when someone says "where do you work" or "what do you do for a living".

farm owner is all around correct but farm or stable manager, ceo equine facility, breeder, ...chief pooper scooper all the same lol

You could tell them I own and operate a Miniature Horse farm and I specialize in breed promotion. Once you start talking, your passion will shine through. Oh and definitely take photos with you!

Its all how you word it sometimes ;) instead of saying I breed cows, "I work with bovine cryogenic fertility," and instead of saying manage a farm, I'm "21 managing a 10 million dollar business with a multimillion dollar deal with chobani."

IMHO, "Miniature Horse Rancher" sounds pretty sick. ;)

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I have to tell say that Al B's is my absolute fav. Let them think I'm some kind of doctor!

glad you bumped this back up! Deb how did career day go? How did you word what business you are in?

NEVER preface anything you do with the word "just"....never say I am "just a mom" because we all know that is a career worthy of ascending to the presidency itself. Never say I am "just a secretary" because that secretary knows more about how the company is run than 90% of the technicians that do just one simple (but requiring a degree) task. And NEVER say I am "just a breeder" because you are more than that. You are a pseudo veterinarian, a geneticist, a trainer, a nutritionist, and so much more.

I LOVE THIS ONE!!!

Debby, I still have not filled out the form for my 30th class reunion but you bet I will be using one of these suggestions.

I think there's a poem or story floating around called "Just a mom". Or something similar. I used to have a copy of it, but it was on computer that crashed.

If you found it, you could maybe change it somewhat to be with horse "stuff" and if it fits the number of words - use part of that... That would be cool!!! I'm not a writer (in prose) so I would find it hard to come up with something like that. There's also the one - "Just a pony/horse/mini..."...

What about a "Miniature equine reproduction specialist"? I agree 100% that you should never belittle yourself by minimizing your accomplishments. I would stress to all of those people at your school that you are one of the lucky few realizing your dream. Most people that work for someone else are miserable and do not have the opportunity to work for themselves and promote something the way you do successfully. If you explain what you posted earlier about putting your heart and soul into it, it will show just how happy you are, and that will speak volumes of what it is that you actually do.
