Heard from Stephanie at 3C this morning. they got their POWER on! They are going to be ok. She hasn't said how much of a mess they have to clean up.
Now I am hearing of Sandy R in bad shape in VA.
Charlotte
Oh no, what is going on with Sandy in VA??
Yes, we have our power back on, thankfully. We had a generator for all except the first night, as I couldn't get it to start. We hauled it to my brother's house and he got it going, so then we were able to run the furnace after that. I live in Marlow, actually the Central High area, and since the entire town of Marlow was without power, I had to drive 30 minutes to Lawton every day to fill up my gas cans for my generator. It was costing me $25 a day just to keep the generator going, but I'm not complaining, that generator is now my best friend, LOL. We were without water part of the time due to the water department's generator going down. It came back on just as we were getting ready to haul water from Lawton for the horses. Tree branches are down on the fences and one even fell on the roof of the horse trailer. Some of the trees in my front yard snapped in half, now it just looks like I have thick sticks in the ground! And one of my trees in the pasture split right down the middle.
I can't believe how bad that storm was!! Yes, some of the power lines and poles were damaged by tree branches, but in this area, miles of poles were down in areas without trees, simply due to the weight of the ice!! The poles just snapped like twigs!! Guys were brought in from out of state to help repair the lines, it was so widespread. I know they are concentrating on the areas where the most people will benefit, as frustrating as that may be for some. I know my road had electricity right up to two miles south of my house for days before it came back on here at home. Talk about getting my hopes up when I first saw that.
I really feel for the people who still don't have power and/or water yet, especially those with young children, like Julie (CretaHills). My young son had a hard time, so I can't imagine what those with more kids or younger kids are going through.
Robin, are you still on well water? If so, maybe Karrel could buy a water barrel at Atwoods and fill it up at work for the horses, when they need water? We used to have to use one for the horses when we first moved out here.
