I have a maiden mare that has been testing 6.4ph for about a week now and still no foal. Has white milk for 3 days now and is dropped, relaxed tail head and loose vulva.

Every night she shows 1st stage labor signs but then stops. Has anyone else used these strips and had a mare stay at 6.4ph so long? It didn't do this with all of the other mares I've used them on....

She is on what we call a "plateau".... Maidens are sneekie little devils.

What is the consistency of her milk?

Horses can control when they foal out for just so long. It has something to

do with their instincts and if they feel unsafe. Maidens don't fully understand

what is happening to them, so they sometimes hold on....but Mother Nature WILL

take over and force her to go into full-blown labor.

We've had that happen on the mare/foal forum to another maiden. She held out for over a week, and then BAM! New little one safely on the ground. Watch her very carefully, and stay with her if you can. She may need some assistance being a maiden, as things can be a bit "tight" with a first-timer. We have a couple of good posts on preparing for the birth on the Mare/Foal Forum here on LB. Best of luck getting baby safely to the ground!
