In our area here in North East Texas, it has been really really wet, but still grass fires start and with winds go absolutely crazy and burn lots of acreage. The culprit is the long dry grasses that ignite with the tiniest of sparks. They are verrrry scary, because you are always worried they will reach your hay fields, or your barns and horses. One old gent in his 90's would come out to his ranch a couple of times each spring, and light fires on purpose to burn out the shrub and etc. from his wooded areas. His ranch is about 3/4 mile from us. He has scared us, and everyone around us to death more than once. The forrestry service finally ticketed him for burning. I know when we see smoke of any kind, hairs raise up and the heart rate acclerates.
