Feed storage

I willnever store more than a couple of bales of hay in a barn that houses animals. (Of course, we have no real barn, so it's a moot point.)

My father was fire chief in our semi-rural community, so my earliest memories include seeing and hearing stories of house and barn fires and hearing of animals lost.

So no hay stored in the horses' barn for me. Ever. We have a small, separate shed for hay and carts, which limits our storage and necessitates many trips to buy hay, but at least we never have any spoilage.

My favorite feed container is actually a rain barrel, made of food grade, heavy duty plastic. It has a two-part screw-on lid (like on a Ball canning jar). I need to start using it as part of our rain collection setup, though, so I'll need to find more of these containers -- but they won't need the spigot, lol.
