My jaw has been locking for as long as I can remember. But since I've got my wisdom teeth removed my jaw locks really quickly! Esp. when I get up in the mornings, I know my mother had it but since we aren't really on speaking terms I can't asked her.

I went to a dentist and they told me to go to a specialist. They said they would call me once they got the guys number..

I have it. I went to a bunch of doctors and they all had different ideas as to how to treat it. One wanted to do surgery which would have involved cutting muscles in my jaw---no thank you. Another sent me to PT which didn't help at all. Finally I just stopped chewing gum, hard pretzels or anything else like taffy or chewy candy and it seemed to get a bit better. I tried a mouth guard at night for a while and it did seem to help but I didn't sleep very well with it in. Now I just live with it. You may want to try a mouthguard before you try any type surgery. My niece also has it and her doctor gave her a mouth guard and a retainer type thing to wear during the day. It did help and he also told her to stop chew gum etc. Good luck.

Find an LVI trained dentist in your area. They are specially trained in muscular and jaw problems. When I would try a case in court I could not open my mouth wide enough to eat from all of the stress. My Houston area doc is getting my bite corrected after years of problems with it.

Do try the mouth gaurd, for me it did miracles. I was having headaches, jaw locking, terrible mouth pain...all is gone now as long as I use the mouth gaurd, if I leave it off for a few days the pain and headaches come right back.
