One of my brothers sent me this email. I can't believe how big this croc is! Just thought I would share.

Fran

This crocodile was found in New Orleans swimming down the street. 21 FT long, 4,500 lbs, around 80 years old minimum.

Specialists said that he was looking to eat humans because he was too old to catch animals. This crocodile was killed by the army last Sunday at 3:00 pm, currently he is in the freezer at the Azur hotel. The contents of its stomach will be analyzed this Friday at 2:30pm.

WOW!

That's bigger than the "gator incident" we had here in Florida last year. FP&L was putting in pipelines and this big boy happened up on 'em.

I believe they measured him just over 18".

Sure hope this one is either deceased, or at the very least "tranqued". Else that fella is AWFUL BRAVE, or downright dumb to be standing anywhere near that humdinger of a tail!!!

That same week, they found this "Rattler's Nest" in one of the old pipelines...

In a clearer pic, (it is a ".bmp"), that I have, I counted 18 noses.

And they are ALL adults. Can you just imagine how many juvie squirmies there are down in that line???

ewwwwwwwwwww!!!

those SNAKES give me the heebie geebies!!!

If they killed the croc -- I hope they at least EAT him --- alligator/croc meat is popular in New Orleans -- and tastes pretty darn good.

Glad I did not meet him in a ditch or on a street!

Is this croc a CROCK??? Computer programs can create great pictures.

I kind of wonder about the credibility of the photo. Funny nothing ever appeared on CNN or Fox about it . They are normally pretty quick to jump on stories like this. Having spent time in the bayous of the area southwest of New Orleans they normally do not relocate animals over four feet long. But they also do not just slaughter them and throw them in a dumpster. There is in normal circumstances any number of commercial sources who would readily take possession of an animal like this one.

I got that in my email the other day. What made me wonder was that crocodiles are not native to the United States, that I know of. So I started checking around and found this Katrina Crocodile.

Definitely a photo of a crocodile, however it can't be in the New Orleans area. What we have in the south are ALLIGATORS.

I'm glad it wasn't found or killed there- I could understand that, had it been true, they would have had neither the time nor the man power to deal with it any other way but it seems a shame. If those people who actually did kill it had only realised what it would have been worth alive........

I couldn't imagine that many snakes! Especially Rattlers.

You got to be kidding? Well, I fell for it hook and sinker. Sorry!

Fran

Don't feel too bad Fran, I fell for it too.

I mean I knew they get that big, just didn't make the connection of the venue to be false.

My "thinker" must be a bit off still.

Steph, way to be on the ball there!

I do believe the "gator/squirmies" one to be genuine. Wish I could remember the exact date that it was verified on the "Snopes" site.

Sorry to disappoint you all, but the photos that Tanya posted are not discribed accurately either. Here's that link: snopes

Thanks for setting the record straight.

When I received these pics, sometime last year I think, or maybe it was the year before, they came from a friend who said the story was "Snopes Verified".

I never really looked it up to see, but I kept the pics to show my brother who used to work for FP&L out of Orlando. Till he was electricuted and nearly died from working on the power lines.

But, anyways, after seeing the pics I thought the power lines weren't the only "dangers" to his job, so wanted to show him. When I mentioned them, he just shrugged and said, "Oh I heard about that". That was the extent of his comments. I just thought that maybe he didn't want to talk about anything "FP&L" because of his electric accident. So I never really thought anything else of it enough to bother with looking into snopes myself.

Forgot about the the pics even, till I saw this croc post this morning...then remembered the gator/squirmies pics. Sheesh, I AM gullible...

Actually, the southern US doesn't have only alligators--there is the American Crocodile, found in Florida. I thought it was a very small variety of crocodile, but I looked it up in my wildlife book & it says the American croc can grow up to 23 feet in length. I'd doubt that here are many of them that get to that sort of size, though.

Wow, thanks Minimor! I learn something new every day
