I'm showing two upcoming 3yr olds. They both turn 3 on May 5th (they were born the same day) and the show I'm going to is the Daffodil Dandy in Glen Rose TX April 19th-21st. Are they still 2yr olds, or are they 3? Thanks you!

They are 3. The birthday for show purposes is Jan 1st--therefore they became three year olds on January 1st

Horses that were born 12/31/12 are now "1yo" when it comes to the show classes

Interesting, the mini I'm showing will be 3 July 7th--so that would mean I have to show her as a 3 year old too?

(at the shows in June)

Yeah, we bought a mare that was pasture bred, and she foaled a beautiful colt on Dec 6th. Not only would I have to show him as a yearling this year, but I didn't get his registration sent in until after Dec 31st, so had to pay the yearling fee for a 2 month old colt!

But, I'm not really complaining. That's just the way it is.

Yep they go by the year they foaled in and what they will be coming January 1st of each year. So no matter what month they were born in, anything born in 2010 is now considered a 3 year old.
