anyone ever do Artificial Insemination on a mini?

Here is why I ask. My stallion is leaving for driving training in approx. 6 weeks. I only have one stallion since I only have 3 breedable mares at this time.

I have a wonderful mare that has an impeccable pedigree and I want to breed her to an incredible stallion since mine of course will be away at training. Does AI work?? I have an incredible vet that I feel very comfortable with her doing the regulating of my mares cycle. And if it does work, does anyone know of any farms that have transported semen in the past and were successful.
