First show - are there REALLY 100 halter classes?

Welcome! I've shown big horses my whole life until getting injured and purchasing\adopting my little guy sometime late last year (don't remember exact date). Now I am totally addicted and loving every minute of it, though I'm not showing just yet due to some training issues that needed...

Foaling season is over for Maple Hollow Farms

Adorable babies! I love all of them but I am slightly biased to the bay and chestnut pintos.

    Introducing...half of our 2013 foal crop :)

Adorable! All of this makes me want a little foal of my own. So dang cute!

    Bugaboos!

These all annoy me to n end when reading ads for sales or breeding. It's terrible here where I live though I think the funniest\most annoying ones are the ones that are trying to pass off a solid grey\chestnut\bay\etc as a paint because they have a blaze or socks. As to the "Filly Colt" "Stud...

    homemade DIY mini ideas

For the rope halters I'd have to ask the family friend because he's actually the one that made the majority of them. I made one with his help but he has all of the detailed instructions. For the pallet fencing we stood all the pallets up on their side around the perimeter of the yard and then...

    I love my Mini!

Halo sounds like an awesome little girl and I can't wait to hear that you have here at your home with you. I absolutely love having my little guy here. Right now I am working on getting him used to goofy trail obstacles like logs, teeter totters, and the "car wash" thing (the one thing he...

    homemade DIY mini ideas

    I love my Mini!

Thanks! I will hopefully start competing him next fall because the show season is ending here due to the temp slowly nearing triple digits.

    I love my Mini!

So it being a full moon out tonight I decided to take Pippin out for his first night walk. He did amazing! He was his normal high steeping, fast, self so that didn't bother me. We went around the field like normal and he trotted, backed up (need to work on his definition of straight), and turned...

For those of you that own just one mini .....

.I have just the one Min but he isn't alone. He shares his paddock with our two goats (a Pygmy & a Nigerian) and one side of his paddock butts against the big horse area so he's not totally alone. He also gets out multiple times a week and I spend as much time as I can with him so I don't think...

Heard of Mystery Man the horse?

That's insane! I wish her, the mares, foals, and Mystery Man goo luck. My question is how does she have that many horses if she's never there an no one (even the person there every day) noticed the mares getting bigger or the extra horse that must have had some pretty obvious clues that he was...

    What do you look for?

So when looking for a horse to show in a number of classes what do you look for? I am wanting to show Pippin in Pleasure Driving, Halter, Showmanship, Trail, Obstacles, and pretty much anything I can get him in. What do you look for in regards to disposition, conformation, etc?

    Food agression!

If you just got a new Mini in with her it could be that she thinks you are going to give her food to them or the other Mini will come and take it from her even if it doesn't look like it. If the new one has any food issues it could also be that they are teaching your girl bad habits, foals seem...

    She did not like it!

All of my horses absolutely hate their fly masks until spring and summer when the flies get bad and then they run to the fence the moment we come out and start nosing their masks. Ace even started taking his mask off the pole and walking up to wherever we are and drop it on us. The only one...

    Going Natural

I really want to clip my guy because he is itching everywhere thanks to his coat still being about two inches long and the weather getting into the mid-high 80s every day. My clippers just aren't strong enough but I did take scissors to his mane to trim the bridle path so I can actually find the...

    Clipping And Crazy Weather

You guys wanting to clip should move to AZ! The lowest it's been since mid march or so has been 70. The average temp has been around 80-85. I'm not clipping anyone because my clippers aren't strong enough but I swear it snows the rainbow when we groom everyone.

    Bath Time.....NOT

My guy hates being sprayed with the water but if he sees the shampoo and conditioner comes out he always behaves. Weird horse loves having the soap scrubbed into him and gets quite grumpy when I rinse it off. Minis, and animals in general, have very weird logic sometimes.

    What do you look for?

Thank you! I found a club that I think is somewhere near but I don't know if the horse has to be registered to join and my boy's not.
