    cubes vs. bales

Oh yes I have fed that before! its really good for putting weight on. I can't believe you get it for so cheap. here I think it about 14 bucks a bag. Minis are SO much cheaper to feed than big horses.

Another beet pulp question, plus flaxseed

I tried feeding it whole and ground. When I fed whole I had lots of pretty blue flax flowers in my lawn. LOL So yeah ground up is better. I fed a small amount like a couple of ounces.

    Skin Problem (Eqyss Microtek)

I know if you use iodine with Microtek it will cause a burn. But it looks like its healing, is the skin under it smooth? If so then its healing. If not might need some more spraying of the microtek.

    cubes vs. bales

I've fed both, and pellets too. I Love the pellets, less mess and waste, but it also leaves the horse feeling hungry, then they tend to chew wood. The cubes were good although they still ate them quickly, but they do give them enough roughage. The bags are so much easier to move around and...

    Northwest folks

OMG that looks like so much fun. Unfortunatly I am stuck at home. My sciatica is acting up and camping or long distance driving are out-and it would be a long drive up the coast. Sigh. Oh well I am at least a year off from driving anyways. Can't even go get my new filly right now. sigh. Hope...

Scary "big horse got in with the minis story"..

I think though there isn't any hard and fast rule about keeping the big and small horses separate. My friend keeps her mini stallion out with her mustang geldings and they play-rough too. No harm has come to the little guy except some mane hairs-his and the big guys. He also goes out with the...

To dye or not to dye

No the worst is that horse hair is tough to die and sometimes black dye turns the hair blue not black. At least that is what I have heard. Hey why not instead of hair dye henna? The do make a black henna, and its GOOD for the hair. I know every fall I threaten to dye my white horse a different...

Brought Home New Mare Today & She's Underweight. . .

Pellets are as good as hay. You can soak them if your afraid of choke. And if she is in foal the added calcium and protein of alfalfa is needed. BOSS is good, and a good vitimin supplement too since probably along with weight loss she lost minerals and vitamins from her bones. It will take some...

    Beet Pulp

I would think starting with a small amount and upping it until you see a gain is the way to go. So a handful? Then up to a cup or so. I usually started my beet pulp soaking when I fed the last feeding then when I want out to feed it was all soft. Harder when its warm out as it can go sour if...

To dye or not to dye

Frosting is important if you want to show color. I don't think it detracts from his beauty.

What would you call this color?

Sounds like a smokey black to me. I had one she was a dark dark chocolate color all over and the ends of her mane would bleach out slightly. Pretty color. Means she is black with the cream gene, so she could throw a buckskin or palomino or if bred to another dilute a creamello or perlino.

    coat bloom

To get my grey mares tail really white I use oxi-clean (from the dollar store) in warm water in a bucket. I tale the tail and swish it in the mix of soap and oxi-clean (one scoop and a dollop of shampoo) the water has to be warm it doesn't work in cold water. I scrub it a bit and the dirt, pee...

    Yearling with Excessive Salivating

I had a bag of whole oats that did that to my mare. there must have been some clover seed in the oats. Stopped feeding her it and she stopped drooling like a saint bernard. It was gross.

    Storing hay in humid areas

I kinda have to tarp, I have on uninsulated metal roof and it gets condensation on it and drips. I HATE it. Noisy as heck when it rains too. I will never have another metal roof like this again.
