    BusySnackers

I just bought 6 each of the Busy Snackers in November for my 6 miniatures. I only put 4 out at a time so I have back up in case it gets really cold and I think they may eat more. This way no one "guards" them. The horses prefer eating from them rather than the ground. I have no waste and no...

    Backyard breeders

I have often wondered if "pet quality" colts (or even show quality) were gelded before being sold if it would help this over population/ uneducated breeder situation. I bought an unregistered 2 year old miniature stallion at an auction for $10 (they couldn't get a bid) and gelded him. I later...

    Thrush ?

My farrier recommends bleach for thrush. You have to hold up the hoof and pour it in, then let it sit for a little bit, put the hoof down. We treat once a day until cleared up. Inexpensive and does the job.

    Help on Buying First Harness?

Since you are in Iowa I would recommend contacting Mike Herron at Herron Stables in Des Moines. He has several types of harnesses in several price ranges and he can help you find the right one for your goals. He also has all the accessories(bits, whips etc.) that you would need for driving...

    North Iowa Miniature horse sale

It was a LONG DAY!!! Like Iowa & Bluebell both said, the FIVE (5) HOUR tack sale was too much. Most of the horse buyers were gone by 3:30 (at the latest!!) I believe this had a terrible impact on the prices paid for the quality of horses there. The sad part is, the new tack was over by 11:00...

    Sending a Mini To Trainer

I understand where you are coming from! I had this same dilema two years ago when I decided not to train my own miniature for fear of wrecking myself and the horse. I went to a clinic put on by an area miniature horse club that featured a trainer giving demonstrations. After watching what he...

    What Class?

I have a trainer and also drive at the shows in Western Country Pleasure. It is hard to tell if you are in a working trot or an extended trot with this video. Bring the head down and slow the working trot down a little and see what you get. The driving classes are evolving and I'm afraid this...

    Show Clothes

Goodwill and a Bedazzler! Got a nice Dress Barn light weight fitted jacket from Good Will and set to work with a Bedazzler. I had a beautiful show jacket in about eight hours for about $10 in cost. I can't sew to save my life and I'm not that creative or domestic but my husband was really...

Found a lump on my mare. . .

My mare had a small lump like that. We took her to the vet and he said it was mastitis (sp?) She was not in foal and hadn't been in two years (our choice) It looked like it was growing bigger everyday for three days until we got her to the vet. It was about two inches by then. The vet...

STATE FARM CANCELS MY HOMEOWNERS INS

I have a similar story to tell. I just got a notice of cancellation by Pekin Insurance a month ago (it expires in December by way of nonrenewal) because I wanted to insure my new Jerald show cart and my new harness. That was all. They insured everything else I have including the horse trailer...

    Pictures of "Lacing"!

http://i810.photobuc...ms/IM000325.jpg Picture of my two year old's lacing. Her lacing pattern has not changed that I have noticed in a year. I do not know if she had this pattern as a baby or was born with it. I assume she did.

    Question?

I have a black and white pinto with extensive lacing across her back. She is two years old now but I bought her at a year and three months old. Her lacing pattern has not changed with time. I suspect she was born with it but I can't say for sure.

    I'm so bummed

Congratulations on your marriage and I just wanted to let you know I got married on the same day too! I asked the same thing to AMHR and this is the response I got from them... In order to change your last name in our data base, you will need to send a note that you have married and your last...

    first mare up

She did it! Is it a boy or a girl? This is the first live birth I have ever seen! I'm thrilled I actually got to see it. It was about 12:34 Iowa time when she laid down and my husband yelled at me that he thought this was it. Sure enough she did. Beautiful baby !

    new to driving...many questions

Yep, I got two of those too! My trainer said we could show in an easy entry cart and shouldn't be penalized but after putting all this money into training and equipment I want to do it up right. I might use those at small local shows if I can't get my cart bought soon enough. My trainer...

    new to driving...many questions

Trust the trainer!!! I am new to this also and just started my horse in training in October. I go to lessons 3 hours away every weekend. I bought all kinds of things before I picked a trainer and then found out I wasted a bunch of money on things that didn't work right. For instance, I...
