Anyone famous in your family tree?

Yes, on my mother's side we were related to Samuel Johnson, who was the Doctor on board the Mayflower. My sister checked into the Mayflower Society and there are scholarships available to decendants of the Mayflower. I love the research stuff....

    Regumate and mini mares

Hello! I am thinking about purchasing a mini mare who is in foal, however, she is only about 30-60 days in foal. A friend mentioned that if I wanted to have her shipped now, I could use regumate to ensure that the foal was not lost. Is this correct? Most of my experience is with big horses...

Congratulations on your upcoming retirement! I'm curious about why you chose the locations you have to look at...living in Wisconsin with 40 acres, I would like to have just as much land but to be in a warmer climate! As others have mentioned there are some problems getting services you become...

How Do You Buy Your Hay?

How do you buy your hay? Do you use a hay store? or do you buy directly from the farmer? If you buy directly from the farmer, how do you make sure the hay is good? I am having trouble with finding good hay buying from the farmers. How do you handle that?

    Seizures in dogs

I had a cocker spaniel (I believe he was a puppy mill guy) about 20 years ago. He developed seizures and we gave him medication from the vet, he did seem to get better and lived a full life. Good luck and enjoy your dog everyday you have him!

Where is the best place to live to raise horses?

I have been living in Wisconsin for the last two years and this winter has been incredibly long! Aside from the winter, I like Wisconsin; there is pasture, land is relatively affordable, it is quiet and pretty. However this winter has been difficult....is there a better place to raise my...

Equine Charity needs your online votes!

Just an update....The Midwest Horse Welfare Foundation and the Care2 Contest - final two days! Saturday is the very last day of this long, very drawn out contest and because of all your hard work, MHWF started at the top and stayed there. That's pretty impressive to say the least, especially...

Equine Charity needs your online votes!

Thanks for voting! They are 3rd in the Nation now, and there is less than two weeks to go in the contest. $10,000 would really help them to keep working for the horses!

Equine Charity needs your online votes!

I'm not sure how to fix the link, it seems to work when I preview the post, but not afterwards. However, if you just go to www.care2.com/animalsheltercontest and vote for the midwest horse welfare foundation! It is a great organization that concentrates on the adoption of equines. Thanks!

Using extension cord for a heated bucket???

Yes, I have been using an extension cord on my 16 gallon bucket, too. I found an extension cord made for cold weather. I did read the message on the bucket, but didn't have much choice if I wanted the horses to have water versus ice!

    Water hoses in winter

I keep my long hose (75 feet) in the barn with the horses at night and it has not been frozen yet! I fill water buckets in the morning when I let the horses out. The short hose (about 10 feet) I just drain after use and I can leave it outside, but I always detach the hoses from the frost free...

Fun thread to pass the time on Cold Days

I'm a college professor, I teach Accounting at a state university. I love my job...where else can you talk about something you like, the students have to listen and then get paid for it! My husband is also a professor, he teaches Marketing and some other business courses.
