    aids in teaching collection

Would getting elastic side reins or a running martingale be helpful for getting my driving horse more collected? Can the elastic side reins be used when driving or just lunging?

    chewing on the bit

I drive my horse in a regular single joint driving snaffle bit. When he's just standing he starts chewing on the bit. When we're driving he doesn't. I've got it adjusted at one lip wrinkle. Does this chewing matter? What does it mean? He drives fine in the bit.

Driving boots for A sized minis

I think I've found all the available boots for minis and none of them are made small enough. My horse has little hooves. They are only 2 5/8" wide. All the boots are for a mini with a little over 3" wide hooves. Is there any boot I've missed or am I just out of luck? :

what width saddle for trail driving?

I think I'm going to order another saddle. Mine is 2" wide and wants to tip. How wide should it be for road and trail driving? Is it important to get one with a gullet, or will a saddle pad be enough?

    Harness pad question

I'm comparing the Gator pads and the theraputic waffle pad from Mini Express. They seem similar but there is a big price difference. Gator pads are $30 and The waffle is only $10. Does anyone have both of these, that could tell me if the $30 one is a lot better? How about the Smucker's...

    pony shipping boots

I need to find some rear leg shipping boots for my 11.2 hand pony. I'm really having trouble finding anything. What I'm finding is either mini size or pony size for 13 + hand ponies. Does anyone know of where I can find this inbetween size shipping boots?

    proper placement of harness saddle?

I'm having some trouble with my harness and I'm thinking may be I'm not putting the saddle in the right place. Does it go behind the withers, or over the withers. I've been putting it behind the withers. But since the girth area is more forward, the saddle tips back a little. Then the thinner...

getting young driving horse to stand still

My mini is 4 1/2 yrs. old and was already trained to drive when we bought him. When we get him in harness and hooked up, he's all ready to go. He doesn't want to stand still while the driver is trying to get in the cart. Then after driving a while and then coming to a stop, he doesn't want to...

    bit contact, driving and riding

I'm new to driving..... but when driving you should have light contact, right? If you give them slack, they speed up. Please correct me if I'm wrong here. Well our pony seems to think that he needs bit contact when someone rides him too, or he thinks he should speed up. So, you can't have him...

How much to feed easy keeper

We just got a 45" pony gelding that is a VERY easy keeper. I really don't know how much hay to give him.? We have him with one mini and in the past 4 days, they have eaten down all the grass in their fenced area. This will probably eventually just turn to dirt and they'll be on a dry lot. I'm...

    horse separation problem

I got my first mini. He's in the fenced area with a pony. They have settled the pecking order and seem very happy. I can take the pony out for walks and the mini is just fine staying home. When I take the mini out for walks, the mini is just fine going out alone, but the pony races around...

    Driving pony conformation concern

We found a well trained driving pony that my husband likes. but he is post legged in back. Now I'm concerned about him becoming unsound. Would joint supplements prevent a problem, or perhaps boots with the cushion it them? Or should we just not drive him very far? How much would be...

    driving training age question

Does it matter what age a horse is trained to drive? I guess what I mean is, can an 8 yr. old horse be trained to drive, or would it be a lot more difficult than starting with a 3 yr. old?

    harness and cart questions

We are looking at buying our first harness and cart. There are differences on harnesses and I'm not sure which way to go. Some have side checks and some have over checks. One person told me that the side check is better because it helps the horse bring their nose in a little, where as the over...

Does anyone have one mini with one goat? I'm wondering if the mini would need to be raised with a goat for it to work.

    minimum space needed for horses

We have a limited amount of space because a lot of our land is swamp/low ground. I'm wondering how big of an area would I need to keep 2 miniature horses? I would take them out for walks, training time, exercise, and fun grazing. But the winters here are severe and long, so they're may be...
