    aids in teaching collection

What kind of rope should I use that won't burn...to make sliding side reins? Jane, Sure, post a photo of what you made.

Are sliding side reins better than a running martingale? Could you post a photo of the clothes line sliding reins in position? How much slack do you give the horse?

    aids in teaching collection

Well, my gelding is a little bit butt high. So, this probably makes it harder for him to round up. His original owner used a running martingale. He did tuck his nose more with it, but I don't remember if he was rounded or not. That was last Summer. Here's a photo of me driving him before I...

    aids in teaching collection

I'm real new to all this. Could someone explain about the sliding side reins? What are these made of? Can I use them when driving? Where can I get them? My horse has a pretty strong hind end. He can power me up some pretty steep hills. But when we're on the flat, he just jogs along. May be I...

Thanks for the info. We'll work on the half halts. I do this when riding my gaited horse.

Would getting elastic side reins or a running martingale be helpful for getting my driving horse more collected? Can the elastic side reins be used when driving or just lunging?

anyone experienced at corrective hoof trimming?

No one has replied since I posted the photos. Do I need better photos? Do you see how the right side of the front hoof (the photo of the bottom of the hoof) goes out, where as the left side is more straight up and down? I should have taken photos before I filed on them. Then everything would be...

anyone experienced at corrective hoof trimming?

It was hard to take pictures by myself. They didn't come out very good. But I got a current one of the bottom of his left front hoof. The others are from yesterday. Also he's got the white line problem. I didn't have it cleaned out in the photo but it's on the right side of the hoof photo...

anyone experienced at corrective hoof trimming?

Ok, I'll post some photos. I want to go take some more. So check back later. I sent some to Linda (Fred) and she says that he needs to have some collection when I drive him...which might help him wear more evenly. So, I'll be back later with some photos of my boy.

    chewing on the bit

Ok, thanks. I just wasn't sure.. A friend had told me horses chew on bits if they are too low in their mouth. So I took it up a hole higher, but he still did it. It's good to know it's not a problem. He isn't too patient.....wants to get going.

    chewing on the bit

I drive my horse in a regular single joint driving snaffle bit. When he's just standing he starts chewing on the bit. When we're driving he doesn't. I've got it adjusted at one lip wrinkle. Does this chewing matter? What does it mean? He drives fine in the bit.

Driving boots for A sized minis

My mini isn't sensitive on gravel at all. I just need the boots because it seems that his hoof doesn't grow as fast as he's wearing it off from driving. I need something that won't fall off during driving. So I think I'll go with the custom made horsesneakers. These don't look like sneakers at...

    pony shipping boots

I finally found some that are available in 14" tall or 16" tall. I'm not sure which size he needs. I'll have to measure again. These are at Country Supply. They are sold in pairs for only $18.99. I'm glad I can just get 2, because I only need them for the hind legs for when he's backing out of...

Driving boots for A sized minis

I think I've found all the available boots for minis and none of them are made small enough. My horse has little hooves. They are only 2 5/8" wide. All the boots are for a mini with a little over 3" wide hooves. Is there any boot I've missed or am I just out of luck? :

what width saddle for trail driving?

Thanks. He does seem to enjoy driving most of the time. We're taking him camping this weekend with the harness club. This will be his first campout.

what width saddle for trail driving?

Leia, Well, does the shaft angle look ok in that last picture I posted?

what width saddle for trail driving?

The shafts don't flip up when I'm in the cart. When we're going down the gravel road, the shafts are going up and down slightly, but only about 1/4" or so. I had just heard the the shafts were suppose to be parallel with the ground. They were until I put the extra pads on. But I've seen large...
