What vaccine protocol do you follow for your mothers to be? I have a broodmare protocol from my vet, but I'm wondering if there any exceptions (etc) for Minis.

Thanks!

I give all of my horses the 4 in 1 vaccine.--tetnus, influnzia, eastern-western. It works for us.

brood mares, stallions & weanlings

I give a 4-way 4 to 6 weeks prior to foaling. They will have also had their fall flu shot in November or December. The foal will then get his/her first set of vaccinations upon weaning.

Hmmm...

Here's the protocol my vet recommended - thoughts on this?

1st month * Avoid vaccinations

2nd month * Avoid Vaccination

3rd month * Anti-abortion vaccination (Prodigy or Pneumabort-K)

5th month * Anti-abortion vaccination (Prodigy or Pneumabort-K)

7th month * Anti-abortion vaccination (Prodigy or Pneumabort-K)

8th month * Rotavirus, Botulism

9th month * Anti-abortion vaccination (Prodigy or Pneumabort-K), Rotavirus, Botulism

10th month (pre-partum) * PHF, EWE/T, Flu/Rhino, WNV**, Botulism, Rotavirus

Post Foaling * Rabies, Refer to adult protocol

Wow Minipants that sounds like an awful lot of vaccinations!

Do you or does your vet give the shots?

I know my vet perfers no vaccinations for preg mares in the first 2 months and the last 2 months

I do my own vaccines (aside from Rabies), but it still seemed like a ton of vaccinations...
