Show grooming tips 2011

Every year theres a show grooming tips thread, and since everyone is getting ready for nationals, I was thinking we should start a thread this year.

What are your show grooming tips?

Before using hoof black, use a wide black sharpie around the top of the hoof to help keep polish off of their legs.

Any tips for white hoofs? Ill soon have 4 to take care of, lol.

I scrub white hooves with a plastic bristle horse body brush when I wash the horse. I used to sandpaper, but if you have ever seen white hooves in fresh snow, you know that the dirt is what is making them dark.

I can't stand seeing a white hoof blackened with Hoof Black. It looks like the horse has rubber boots on. Blech! And dark hooves on a gray horse we just Hoof Clear because of the same reason. It looks silly to blacken them.
