Wondering if I should stock up on some of the local grass hay being offered right now. It is less $ than the more nutritious eastern Oregon orchard grass I have been feeding, and I am wondering if feeding a mix of the two hays would be OK?
As long as the local stuff is not coarse, it would be about what they are used to eating in my pasture. My understanding is that since the local hay gets more rain here as it grows, it is less nutritious that the hay grown on the other side of the mountains, that gets a lot less rain. Since all the minis here are pretty easy keepers, am I wrong to think feeding a less nutrient-dense hay would keep them busy but help maintain weight better?
