I am sure I know the answer to these but want your opinion.

Can a bay carry the cream gene hidden? Or are they always buckskin?

Now can a horse with a pinto parent test as a non pinto gene carrier? I always thought that a pinto tested for the gene was either homozygous or heterozygous. And heterozygous meant that they could care the gene but not produce pintos all the time.

I guess the questions is can a horse test as not having the pinto gene at all?

Thanks for your help.

a horse that doesnt carry any pinto genes is a solid colour

if a horse tests as heterozygous for pattern it means he carries one copy of the gene and only 50% of his/her offspring will be pinto

a horse that tests as homozygous for pattern means that he carries two copies of the gene and 100% of his offspring will be patterned

lm not sure l would describe it as hidden but some buckskins can be so dark as to make it difficult to see the cream, especially if he has sooty
