The Classic Shetland Stallion Sweepstakes is in full swing with loads of stallions to choose from this year! Take advantage of the online format to view their profiles, pictures, get, and pedigree. We have stallions from across the country with many centrally located for your convenience. Looking for Hall of Famers, Congress Champions, Congress Champion Producers, Hall of Fame Producers, Color Producers, Double Registered, Futurity and Sweepstakes winner producers, and Pedigrees a mile long? We have them for you to bid on!! Classic Shetland Stallion Sweepstakes

Auction opens June 1st and closes September 1st, 2008. Don’t miss out on this opportunity for a foal from one of these Grand stallions! The sweepstakes program is designed to offer the services of some of our industry’s most renowned stallions to other breeders for the continued diversity of our breed. This is an excellent way for stallion owners to further promote their stallions and farms and for mare owners to obtain a breeding from a stallion that may not be publicly available. It’s a great way to infuse your herd with new bloodlines or another marketing tool to promote your foals. This program is run by volunteers and needs the general memberships’ support to continue this endeavor. We need stallion owners to donate the services of their stallions as well as mare owners to bid on these services. The services bid on are for the 2009 breeding season and the 2010 foal crop. Weanlings from this program will be eligible to compete at the 2010 Congress in the Classic Weanling Sweepstakes Payout class. Participation in the class is encouraged but is optional. For further information on rule and payouts, please visit Rules and Regulations.

As Chair of this great program, I would like to thank the following 14 farms who’ve donated their stallions’ services as well as my committee for getting us to this point!

I don't know a ton about this... I have not shown at Congress yet... is this similar to a Futurity except you have to buy a specific stallion's stud fee for it to enter? Are the paybacks similar to the Futurity paybacks, more, or less?

If half the stallions entered in this are actually Moderns and not Classics, why do they call it a "Classic" sweepstakes? Why can't they split it in half and make a class for the Modern babies too? I would be interested in it if the resulting Modern baby could be competitive, but not if it's labeled as a "Classic Sweepstakes."

Why are they letting in the Moderns??? I have no problem supporting Moderns of course

but I don't understand why I couldn't send a Modern mare to do this. Is there a Modern Sweepstakes too? I have not seen one advertised.

There is a modern sweepstakes, but it had been put on hold due to lack of interest. To read more about the rules and regulations, please go to Rules and Regulations.

Why are there "moderns" in the Classic sweepstakes? Because they are A papered and throw Classic type foals when bred to the right mare.

Compared to futurities: This is similar with the exception that only foals sired by the stallions auctioned off are eligible to compete. The stallion owner is granted one foal from their stallion and the mare owner of the winning bid is granted one foal. They are shown as weanlings at Congress. The Sweepstakes payouts are LARGER than the weanling futurity payouts.
