    Castration question

Well, I got the situation resolved. The owner called me back and admitted that I was mischarged for the scrotal ablation, so I will be credited some money to my account. It isn't a whole lot, but at least I feel the situation has been corrected. I didn't expect it to be a lot of credit...

    Castration question

I should have added...I demanded the owner call me back...I'm waiting for the call from him.

    Castration question

Laura, that is very scary. Lucky for us the crypt surgery wasn't necessary, it ended up being a normal castration. It was done 2 months ago and he healed great! But now I feel like they are trying to castrate my pocketbook!

    Castration question

Thank you both for the replies! I'm almost positive it was left open as I was looking under him several times to rinse it out with the hose and check for any inflammation. Sounds very strange to me how many times the story changed and the fact that she said that the tech wasn't suppossed to...

    Castration question

I think my vet is trying to pull a fast one on me...so I'd like some other opinions. My colt went into the vet for what we thought would be a crypt surgery, but under full anesthesia the surgeon was able to find the second one and called me afterward very happy that it would cost be...

Just got some great news from the vet!

Thanks everyone! Rascal is home now and doing great...eating great and peeing and pooping normal. The incision looks good, he gave me a nice roll so I could get a look at it. Barely any swelling so far!

Just got some great news from the vet!

My colt I posted about last week that the vet thought was a crypt went for his surgery this morning and the vet just called and said that it just took full anesthesia for the 2nd one to pop out! He wasn't a crypt afterall, just had one hiding real good! He is staying overnight because of the...

    Crypt surgery...any advice?

Thanks everyone for the advice. I have the surgery scheduled for Friday...it needs to be done as the poor little guy is seperated from the 2 girls and he is not happy at all...pacing constantly and when turned out, he won't leave the door to the barn where the girls are. I'm hoping they don't...

    Crypt surgery...any advice?

Hi Carolyn, When the vet was out last Friday, he actually checked him while he was fully sedated. He checked 4 or 5 times because he was disappointed that he wouldn't be able to take care of it for me, so he kept gong back and checking while we were waiting for him to wake up. I was going to...

    Crypt surgery...any advice?

He's was a year old in February, so the vet gives him a 10% chance of dropping the 2nd one. He is also beginning to show a lot of interest in the girls in the past week and keeping them seperated is hard, so I think we need to go through with the surgery ASAP.

    Crypt surgery...any advice?

My vet was out to geld my colt last week and after sedating him, found him to be retaining one of his testicles. So now we have to go for the big surgery. Anyone who has been through it have any advice on what to expect from the recovery? What sort of things do I need to watch out for...

Request for pics of maiden mares...

I think your right, I probably could have skipped my post and waited until they were out today in the wet snow...now that her winter woolies are all wet and patted down, I'm amazed at how that "belly" went away. Thanks for the opinions!

Request for pics of maiden mares...

Here's some pics of the mare I'm questioning. Here she is when we got her in August (at this point she would be around 120 days) Then here she is in the fall (probably around 200 days) And here she is today...all wet from playing in the snow! (she would be about 260-270 days today)...

Request for pics of maiden mares...

Could you please post any pics you have of your maiden mares around 250-300 days? I have a mare that I bought possibly in foal, she would be around 260-270 days right now. I'm going back and forth wondering if she pregnant. On day I say yes, the next I say no way! It would help to see some...

As a follow-up to my wood chewing question...

Question for you...when you use the milk jugs, do you glue the lids on? But then how would you get the grain in after it's gone? I gave one to Red last night in her stall...I was a little worried about the cap, but put some grain in it, twisted the lid tight and poked holes in the bottom...

I like that idea, that's great and cheap! I may do that tonight!

Any suggestions to stop wood chewing?

Thanks, I will get the stuff for the bark this afternoon, before it gets too bad! I also talked to my husband about fencing them off...it's now on his to do list, because these trees provide complete shade for the dry lot and we can't lose them!

As a follow-up to my wood chewing question...

My guys have a jolly ball that spends the majority of the time at the lowest point of the dry lot...the horses won't even touch it. What else do you to keep your minis busy both in the stall and outside?
