    Homemade Fly Spray Recipe?

What is the Neem oil spray that you mix up? And yes, I would prefer something natural. I hate spraying those chemicals on them, and especially with one being due this weekend. Right now she is just wearing a fly mask during the day but still haven't gotten anything else to help combat the...

    Homemade Fly Spray Recipe?

Hi, Flies are HORRIBLE and driving our poor horses crazy! Anyone have a tried and true recipe for making a good homemade fly spray? I read one thing that said the vinegar in one homemade spray faded someone's bay horse's coat-anyone else had that experience and if so was it significant? Really...

Will a Pregnant Mare Let a Stud Breed Her?

Sorry it took so long to get pictures and they are not the best as she has been off pasture for quite awhile so all she wanted was grass. She is a muddy mess. Sometimes I look at her and think she looks so fat that she has to be pregnant, then other times I am not so sure. Have not seen...

Will a Pregnant Mare Let a Stud Breed Her?

That is what I was wondering, if it was something like that since that is the first time they have been apart for a long time. The weird thing is that although they are buddies, he is only ever near her if she allows it-she is very much always in charge, so I thought it was weird that she would...

Will a Pregnant Mare Let a Stud Breed Her?

Also, he doesn't get by with anything she doesn't want him to, like I said before SHE is the boss. So if she doesn't want him around there is never any question-generally when food is involved. She always eats in the barn. She will let him in there with her all day but when being fed she...

Will a Pregnant Mare Let a Stud Breed Her?

They are always together and their pasture is where we watch them all the time. We have not witnessed ANY of this behavior since last breeding season when we thought she had been bred by him May 2011. That is why we really thought she was pregnant and due really soon. We have been watching...

Will a Pregnant Mare Let a Stud Breed Her?

Okay, so we have a mare that we *thought* was bred. We had seen her bred several times over a several day period the first week of last May (by proven stud), so we had her due date calculated to be this week. She is always kind of fat and "hay belly" looking, so even when she is pregnant she...

Do your pregnant mares lie around a lot more than normal?

Just wondering if you notice that your pregnant mares seem to lie down more often then non-pregnant horses. I feel paranoid-not had a lot of pregnant horses and this is the first full-sized pregnant horse we have had. She seems okay, eating normally etc, going to her water, the minerals and...

Need to put some weight on a pregnant mare we purchased

Thanks! It will be interesting to see if I notice a change in eating habits-we have one pregnant mini and this pregnant mare we just got for my daughter. She is a great mare but I was not so excited about her being bred. We have not had great experiences with our deliveries. We had a...

Need to put some weight on a pregnant mare we purchased

Thanks! The scoop is one of the large feed scoops, gallon sized. Why do they decrease hay intake the further along in pregnancy they are? So much to learn!

Need to put some weight on a pregnant mare we purchased

We also gave her all her shots and wormed her-had some worms in the stool after worming but nothing excessive.

Need to put some weight on a pregnant mare we purchased

She was bred in June, so due next May. So if I keep giving her the fat builder in her food that will just make the foal too big? Looks like I should up the pellets from 12% to 16% then, and she is already getting all the hay she can eat. She just never seems satisfied...even more so than the...

Need to put some weight on a pregnant mare we purchased

She is about 15 hands, not a stocky-type, 14 years old, had foal in May and was bred back. Like I said, not horribly skinny, just a little thin. I have no idea what they were giving her, but she had been stabled somewhere and all the guy that we got her from said was that he was not happy with...

Need to put some weight on a pregnant mare we purchased

We purchased a pregnant mare (full sized horse) and she is a little thin-you can see slight definition of ribs and her hips bones are a little prominent. She had a foal in May though and I know my minis lose the roundness in their rumps for awhile after delivery, but I would like to see her...

    Warts on a horses muzzle

I had read old farmer's "cure" for warts on horses is to use castor oil on them a few times a day....may be worth a try. If you Google it you will see many supposed success stories with it.
