I really hate going to this auction because of the conditions of the horses they run through.

It is huge - they run draft horses on Friday (with separate barn for draft tack and carts) and saddle/buggy horses and ponies (tack etc) on Saturday.

I am only going this year because I am hoping to get a mini harness and possibly a cart.

Last year there were several minis that went through and only three were in halfway okay condition. The ones in poor condition (wormy, missing hair, long feet etc...) did not even get a bid so who knows what happened to them.

I hope the people who brought them has decided not to breed them any longer.

One of my friends went to a local auction last weekend and she said there were two black pony foals or minis (she said she couldn't tell because of their horrible condition) that they did not even get a $5 bid on! :new_shocked: She also over heard a couple of dealers talking about the "big" auction this weekend. - what they didn't sell at that auction they were going to "dump" at this weekends sale.

I know just how you feel! But sometimes even if I don't bring the trailer I still buy  so I end up making an extra trip! LOL!

I have to ask where is this auction? Hubby has a 4 day weekend comming up!!

Yoder's Amish Auction is held at the Isabella County Fairgrounds in Mt Pleasant. It's not too far from the Soaring Eagle Casino. If you go be prepared to walk a distance as you park quite a ways from the buildings.

Address:

Isabella County Fairgrounds

500 N. Mission Road

Mount Pleasant, MI 48858

I have to just say I have been going to this sale for several years and I do know they did get a lot of flak for the condition of some of the horses last year, so it will be interesting what happens this year!! Yes they always have horses in rough shape but my way of thinking is maybe they will get a better home if they are lucky!! My friend bought a jenny a couple years ago and she was in bad shape but she is the sweetest girl and is due to foal in the next month, so sometimes those rough looking ones are truly diamonds in the rough

oh, I know that one...last time I went to the auction and said that, I ended up "talking loudly" in the line about "needing a ride"...$30 bucks later, my new 6 month old Arab colt was in a trailer on his way to his forever home:)

Well won't you need to bring a trailer to bring your cart home?

: Let us know how it goes. I am thankful we don't have those sort of auctions around here on a widescale basis (yes, we have them, just not as many or as large). I went ONCE and pretty much just don't go at all any more. I don't have any room as I board. I can see how it's dangerous for anyone with pasture space who loves animals to be there.

Oh, wow... I've never been to an auction that they couldn't get a bid for a horse... in any condition. It's been quite a long timesince I've been to an animal auction, but I've seen some really poor ones go through that would make me want to cry, hardly able to walk, and some stupid idiot with a whip behind them hitting them and stuff, but there were competitors for meat that would go.

Hope you get some good buys on equipment.

I did talk to hubby about going but he said no way! LOL! I really do enjoy going to some small local auctions for tack but when the horses come through I usually leave. It's pretty tough to see. I did purchase a nice quarter horse mare from the auction who happened to be druged so she was a handful when we got her home. I also got my 2 llamas from auction and those boys have grown on me.

: I'm happy I got them. I will never purchase a big horse again from the auction no matter how much my heart strings are pulled. Let us know how it goes for you!

If you find your cart I'd love to see pics!!!!! (or anything else
