    Overo Pintos

We love overos, too! We have a black splash overo that has given us many nice colorful foals. This is Lucky. This is Irish Creme, a Lucky daughter, and her dam. Wow - the color! This is Painter, a Lucky son - a black yearling LWO negative colt. Here is Lola - a sorrel LWO positive...

    I Know It's Early But...

The All American Miniature Horse Club will be having their third annual AMHR show in Cedar Rapids Iowa on June 18th and 19th. This is becoming one of the premier shows in the Midwest if not the country. Last year we had 168 horses making it the largest AMHR show in the country excluding...

Suspending Show Carts from Trailer Ceiling

We used to hang the cart in our old trailer that was custom built for us. We had four loops welded into the ceiling when built. And then used nylon ratchet straps top hang it with. The drawback to that was one person really struggled to load a cart by themselves. And loading and unloading the...

    The Cost of Shows

Thank God we live in the Midwest (Iowa). Like Sandee stated around here we can get the unlimited classes of $45 to $60 per show depending on the number of judges. Stalls rang from $35 to $50, bedding is around $7, and office fees are $5 per horse. We figure most shows will cost us around $100...

    Feeding Alfalfa pellets

Have to agree with Becky the 1/4 pellets are the only way to go. Have heard to many horror stories with cubes and the minis. Another thing we like about the pellets is the quality does not change from batch to batch, but some times hay quality is hard to duplicate if you switch suppliers and...

    AMHR

I think the breed is just going through a phase and like said before that is what is popular right now and that is where the advertizing dollars are coming from. Every aspect of livestock that we have been involved with has gone through cycles be it show cattle, sheep, hog, or horses. A good...

    Feeding Alfalfa pellets

We soak our pellets at a one to one ratio (1 can of pellets to 1 can of water) this would depend on the sizes and condition that we are trying to achieve or maintain. We soak for 12 hours to ensure that they are completely soaked, so when done feeding we mix up the next set of buckets. One great...

    Low thyroid mares?

We have a mare that is 16 and has been on thyroid medicine for 5 years. She is used to the routine of getting a small amount of grain every evening with her meds. No matter which yard or pasture she is in, at evening chores we just call for her and she will come to the gate and sort her self off...

    East Acres Miniatures

Yes, we knew Max, too. Horse trader deluxe....but he loved his horses. Max made it to all the horse sales around - mostly to get a bargain but also to chat with everyone there. His daughter told me he put on about 70,000 miles a year on his truck just traveling to sales and horse farms. We...

    Donkeys for Christmas

I got a call about three weeks ago. My daughter's old 4-H leader was in the hospital and wanted to surprise her husband with a donkey for Christmas. He had gotten depressed with the bad health situation she was in and she knew this would help his spirits. So I emailed my friend Maureen, she...

    AMHA Color abbreviations

I was reading the information on the foundation sire site and it made me question some of the color abbreviations. There has to be a list somewhere. This site says there are 80 acceptable color choices for AMHA registrations.
