Do any of you take your minis to nursing homes, children's hospitals, etc.? Questions.

That's Awesome! Thanks everyone. I thought I'd start out by taking him to box stores, etc. to be around people, different footing, noises, etc. He's usually really well behaved when he's out - he just needs some experience. Great attitude so I'm excited.

Do any of you take your minis to nursing homes, children's hospitals, etc.? Questions.

Targetsmom - Did you just reach out to nursing homes, etc. and say you wanted to come visit? Just wondering about liability and if the homes had any special requirements.

Do any of you take your minis to nursing homes, children's hospitals, etc.? Questions.

I really want to get into taking my mini into nursing homes and children's hospitals this year. He has a great temperament - so that's a good first step. He is two years old. Curious as to what your experience has been doing this type of thing. Mostly interested in hearing about the most...

    Moving from pasture to hay

Do I need to worry about moving my mini from pasture to grass hay? My bigger horses go directly to it, but not sure about a mini. I'm thinking this may be a good thing to do with my mini so I can better control his intake and rule out digestion issues. Thanks!

Concerned about Mini and intestinal issues

Well - this is some great feedback, however, now I'm more confused! Should I just go hay (in the process of getting that tested) or just leave him on pasture - where he's done well before and up his protein? I actually backed off on his supplement (for protein mostly, vitamins/minerals) to give...

Concerned about Mini and intestinal issues

I did a double dose worming on him 2 months ago. Sand could be an issue - it's possible. He's on pasture (native grasses) and gets ProAdvantage Progressive Grass Formula as a supplement and for the protein content. I also have an Equilix and white salt block out for all the horses. I've also...

Concerned about Mini and intestinal issues

I've had my mini for about a year (he's a yearling) and about a month ago his abdomen seemed to get quite large and he has had diarrhea on and off (his stool is normal, but has a leaky, very watery manure that just runs out randomly). Clearly, there is some digestive upset. He has been on...

First time clipping my mini - need advice.

Good idea on the bib trim. I may give that a try first.

First time clipping my mini - need advice.

Interesting - I just searched the sight and found responses to someone clipping their 7 month old and people suggested not clipping - instead let the coat shed naturally. I would love to do that, he just seems so thick right now. He does find shade in the pasture under trees and loafing shed so...

First time clipping my mini - need advice.

My miniature is a yearling and this will be my first clipping with him (I've never clipped a horse before). He was clipped once before when he was at the shelter (before I got him). I need advice on how to go about it, what type clippers are best, once clipped - do I need to blanket him at...

How to determine the correct weight for my mini.

Thanks for the feeding charts chandab. I'll give it a go and increase his feed to see if that belly will come down a little. Should he be getting any alfalfa hay or just stick with the grass hay and supplements?

How to determine the correct weight for my mini.

Wow - no, I've been giving him about 3/4 of one green cup. The guy at the feed store told me 8 oz. for his size. That's a huge difference. My big horses only get 2 green scoops daily. Would you increase his feed gradually?

How to determine the correct weight for my mini.

The vitamin/mineral supplement is the ProAdvantage Progressive Grass Formula, which has 30% protein. My vet suggested the feeding schedule. However, based on the above link its too little protein. Targetsmom - thanks for the link! Very helpful!

How to determine the correct weight for my mini.

I adopted a mini in June and at that time he was 6 months old and 144lbs. We recently had him gelded and at that time he was 180lbs at 10 months old. He has grown taller and filled out, which he needed to do since he received a body score of 3 when I first got him (still boney in his ribs and...

Pics of my new mini! Now I have questions!!!

I will get a new picture. His legs probably look large since they didn't shave his legs - he was too sensitive about them, so they only shaved down to top of knees. I need to finish trimming him up.

Pics of my new mini! Now I have questions!!!

I talked with the guy at the feedstore and he recommended 8 oz. of ProAdvantage Grass (8oz. til 12 months/ 6 oz. til 18 mo./ 4 oz. til 2 yrs./ 2-3 oz. after 2yrs. old). That sounds about right since I give my full size horses get 1lb. daily. However, I do see where Chandab got her 1.5# on the...

Pics of my new mini! Now I have questions!!!

Thanks for all the feedback. He was malnurished when they got him in April - came it at 95lbs. They also suspected a calcium deficiency and were feeding him some alfalfa. Wow, I've not been feeding him enough ProAdvantage - I'll start increasing his feed. He eats the grass hay almost all the...

Pics of my new mini! Now I have questions!!!

I adopted this mini "Pico" from the animal welfare place that I volunteer. He is approx. 8-11 months old, from what they can tell. He has adjusted super well and is eating, drinking, peeing, pooping, everything looking good. I basically started feeding him what I give my horses - good quality...

My first Mini - can you help me get started?

Great thoughts! Thanks! I figure I'll have better success with him since he'll be alone in the beginning. I found a mini tack store in my area that I'm going to today to get some supplies. I've also decided, after talking with my vet, to hold off on gelding until fall. We do have a mare here...
