    ♥ ♥ ♥ 2012 Foals ♥ ♥ ♥

Here is our first foal of the year, a leggy and refined black pinto filly born February 23rd at 9:10 am. Her sire is our own Little Kings Russian Revelation (silver buckskin) and her dam is the lovely Half Measures BW (black pinto). Her barn name is Laila, still working on an "official" name.

    Deafness in Overo Paints

I just did a google search and can't find that article, but I did find one saying MOST splash pintos are NOT deaf! Please ignore my previous post, clearly I got bad info (who knew everything you read on the web isn't true?!)

    Deafness in Overo Paints

I don't know where I read it, its been 4 years since I purchased him and discovered his deafness so who knows where the article was at this point... I also recall the article saying the splash pintos look as though they have been held from the top and dipped straight down into white paint. My...

    Deafness in Overo Paints

I have a deaf mini gelding, he's been the easiest horse I have to train. Very willing, very sensitive. He was trained to drive when he was younger, and yes we used an open bridle. He's a splash pinto, ETA: I have read that 90% of them are deaf yet they still perform just fine. There are...

Just got The Journal in the mail

Support, yes, but they also need proper break over and the frog isn't able to do its job at that length.

Just got The Journal in the mail

Why is this becoming a flame-fest? Sandy is concerned and upset about a legitimate problem. She (and I, and a lot of others) has every right be upset about this practice of overgrowing hooves without it becoming a fight. I think if you want to flame her for being against it, find something...

Just got The Journal in the mail

I read Sandy's post as being shocked that the hooves are so clearly overgrown, on purpose, in order to get "better movement". It is a fact, not an opinion, its painful to the horse and that is one reason they step higher. They HAVE to in order to get around those uncomfortable toes. Imagine...

Just got The Journal in the mail

Sandy, I felt the same way. I can't even look at it. As a farrier, it just kills me to think someone could do that to their horse for a $2 ribbon and some "glory". Tradition or not, its painful for the horse for their hooves to be so long. Like many horse show torture practices, I think it...

    Interesting!

    What would you do?

I believe the papers should stay with the horse. Its his/her history, identity, age verification, etc and in my opinion its just the right thing to do for the horse. If it were me, I'd give them the papers.

    After a looooong wait !

    Beautiful!

    Breeding Very Petite Miniature Mare

Personally I would not do it either. If you decide to do it, please have a vet check her to see if she even has room to pass a foal safely. It can be devastating to have the foal be stuck inside, and it does happen unfortunately, even to bigger mares.
