    Feeling movement?

I've never had a bred Mini mare, but I have had many bred full sized mares. It seems the foals were most active after mom drank a cold bucket of water. I'd give mom her water, and about 1 minute later the rodeo began!

Question for you about one of my mares...

Don't feed that gel as a preventitive unless your mare has hypocalcemia. If you do and she does not, you can throw her metabolism all out of whack. When our dairy cows used to get it, (usually our highest producing girls) we would use the IV calcium. They would go from almost comatose to...

Who's horses have a choice on a snowy day?

I live in Maine and have a run in for mine. They hate being inside! Unless its pouring rain, mine will stand out in the cold, snow, icy weather. I have a mare with heaves, so she can't be locked inside anyway. Good for her, bad for me. I feel guilty when I go outisde in a storm or bitterly cold...

    Trimming Feet

My ex was a farrier, so he taught me to do my own. I will have a farrier do my new little mini, since his feet are messed up from improper/no foot care, but when he is normal, I will start doing it myself. My local tack shop also carries shoeing supplies, so that's where I get my stuff. I have...

    Question about silver dapples

Try kelp meal, it makes a wonderful coat. All mine have dapples and I really believe it's from the kelp.

    Open Pleasure Driving Horses Action....

My Hackney gelding has all that natural high stepping gaits and head carriage. He has never been in a harness or worked. My little guy has nice natural gaits too. He's never been in harness either, he's only 18 months old.

    Himalayan Salt Blocks

I've been looking at them because my horses and goats like to dump the brick on their water buckets after breaking them out of the holder. However, I know my 2 boys would figure a way to make either a weapon of a toy out of them. I can see them racing across the pasture with the salt on a rope...

    Liberty Classes

Could someone explain to this rookie exactly what liberty classes are? Do they do certain things? What are they judged on? Thanks.

    Really low prices response

I have always sold registered animals with papers. If the new owners wish not to transfer, then that's their perogitive. I always felt that the registration is their claim to fame as it were, it's who they are, why take that away from them? If they're gelded, then there's no issue of breeding...

    Times are getting tough

My Hackney gelding came from one of those horrible end of the line auctions. I have a freind who goes to them and buys as many pony's/horses as she can afford to feed to keep them off the meat wagon. My guy has major behavioral issues, he is scared to death of human contact, but he is not mean...

    Supplements for Stalllions

I used to stand Appaloosa and QH stallions, not sure if you do things different with Mini's, but the only supplement I gave them was kelp meal from a local company. I would up their grain a little but that was it. I had a 100% conception rate and they never lost condition, so I guess they did...

I'm new to here and Minis

His ribs are well covered. He has gained weight since I got him, but I'm afraid of having him gain too much weight! Since it's been so cold (-24) I was really pounding hay to the Mini and the Hackney (the App mare has heaves). I'm afraid he is turning into a tubbo! :DOH!

Those of you that show silver dapple horses

Question from a rookie Mini owner.....what do you mean by razored?

Possible Scam? Canadians need your input.

Because most of the scammers are out of the country, they used to be from Nigeria and places like that. Local cops cannot handle anything that far from their jurisdiction. In the US the FBI and Secret Service handle international cases.

Possible Scam? Canadians need your input.

As a former cop/detective, I had to handle several complaints similar to the one you recieved. Most definately a scam, probably from someone not in Canada. When I used to received those replies to ads I had posted I used to string the person along until the very end. Got them all upset! hehehe
