    COLOR EXPERTS....

I sure would....where is it? : You know this is driving me NUTS because last year when this same sorrel mare had a buckskin-dun colt, everyone thought it was silver buckskin, and he did look like it. Unfortunately the colt died when it was 2 weeks old from some weird condition (enlarged thymus...

    COLOR EXPERTS....

Here's a link to more photos of this filly's dam's background. I placed the pics so the filly (and her dam) are in the middle of the page. Sire's background on top and dams' on bottom. For those that had suggested PQing the filly, first of all, she is AMHA eligible but she is going to go over...

    COLOR EXPERTS....

The perlino stallion is not related to this filly in question. The bay with the blue blanket was mohogany bay with black points. I clipped him before I took any pics so he's not his natural color. Now as I said, he had black points, mane, tail and legs BUT he did have some very subtle greyish...

    COLOR EXPERTS....

The colt's sire is a perlino with dun, homozygous for black, cream (of course) and agouti. The mare is true black with sunburned mane. I know she is black because she produced a black pinto colt by a grey (sorrel) pinto stallion. Not sure I follow you.....the filly's sire is a bay with some...

    COLOR EXPERTS....

To my understanding, a horse with black points absolutely cannot carry silver, or it would show, turing the mane and tail to a light color. I bred a black and a bay and got a sorrel.....I am 100% positive of the parentage. I bred the sorrel to a bay with some dun traits and got this filly...

Our 2nd and last foal for the year

Thanks! Nope, no silver in his dam either, her dam is black and her sire was bay so the colt can't be silver.

Our 2nd and last foal for the year

He will only produce buckskins with non-cream mares and perlinos with cream mares. Takes the guesswork right out of it!

Our 2nd and last foal for the year

Thanks Dona! Echo is a perlino and I don't think he carries silver. I think his (colt's) mane is diluted from the dun gene as Echo has dorsal stripe and leg barring and throws it. I think that's why his eyes are like that, kinda gray/blue. Sarah!?!?

Our 2nd and last foal for the year

I wanted to ask you if your filly is a dun? My older colt has a dorsal stripe and leg barring. Looks really cool!
