I have a huge interest in team driving...but to compete in CDE much more fun than ring driving :D so I guess I only can comment on the interest in team driving...hoping to have my team together in the fall!!

    More Harness Questions

Hi Jenny! I was very close to buying Breaker a year or two ago! I really liked him but he wasn't a pinto Where are you in BC? I am in Armstrong...who is your coach? I don't know if you have already bought your harness but I have a couple of suggestions...just food for thought. I compete with a...

Comfy Fit Harness & Myler Bits

paintponylvr, My carriage is a Bellcrown, originally made for a small single pony but my boyfriend welded me the pole and made it work for my pair. I have no idea about the model because its older and I haven't seen one all that similar on their website. Yes the hames are the SS Buggy Hames...

Comfy Fit Harness & Myler Bits

Hi all, haven't been on here much...but I must add my two cents in...I drive with a pairs comfy fit harness in full collar and hames as well as the Kelly Comfort Snaffle type of bits and love both pieces of equipment! I have a attached a picture of them "in action" last summer at a driving camp...

    Traces...tight or loose?

But the entire point of a harness is for weight to be distributed and for pulling comfort. Breast collars are designed to be the point of contact where the horse pulls from, pushes into to move forward (so if they are making them so thin they are useless, well then people don't understand the...

    Traces...tight or loose?

If that horse was engaged and having impulsion...the traces would not be slack...impulsion and engagement means a forward movement...even in a collected trot. Also stands for proper harnessing, which in my opinion this horse is not.

    Traces...tight or loose?

Yep...and look where the tug loops and wrap straps are...in his armpit...that's what that horse is holding the cart back with...he is not round...he is shoved so far back because of check and martingale...he cant get round. Makes me so sad

    Traces...tight or loose?

When did the breed ring become so un-focused on the comfort and well being of the horses?? It makes me so sad

Why would you use a tongue bit thing (dont know that its called)

Did they tie his tongue down using a piece of mesh/ panty hose type material? I have seen this...but its used to help the tongue from getting over the bit...hopefully wasn't something terribly harsh especially since they were doing it "because the trainer did"...that is a red flag in my...

watching the driving classes at Worlds

The definitions that they have come up with for the different driving classes are bizarre...and I had a judge explain to me once that in the pleasure driving classes they expect to see the check engaged on the horses (aka the black beauty effect) while it wasn't as important in say a western...

    Bitting rig

watching the driving classes at Worlds

As a side note...would love to see someone go into the ring at a higher level without a check or martingale on....as in AMHA a check used to be optional...not sure if it still is...

watching the driving classes at Worlds

Also why they feel the need to have a martingale and a check on every horse in the ring...when those two pieces of equipment do entirely opposite things to horses heads...my answer to your question though Reignmaker...is that when using a check and martingale on the horses...they can't move...

    halters under driving bridles

I drive a pair of minis, and I use synthetic underhalters (all flat with a buckle on left side of poll) under my driving bridles as its easier for my navigator to unsnap the leads from these once we are hitched. My horses compete in 10+ km marathons with the halters undereath the bridles and...

    Collar and Hames revisited...

I use a collar and hames with my pair, I absolutly love it...they are 36-37 inch minis however, and they are able to use a collar effectively (I think with smaller minis it can get bulky etc) I purchased mine from Chimacum tack and have just now purchased the synthetic harness to go with it...
