I have my first show of the year this weekend in Corunna, Michigan. It feels great to get back out in the show ring!
Unfortunately, unlike other years, I am not showing in halter much. I have one mare who I would like to get a few more points on, but after that, I won't be showing in halter. I was a little disappointed about this as I love my halter class over all others, however I have decided that this is a year for performance!
My driving gelding of many years, has a few quirks whom we have worked to correct through many many things over the past few years. He is simply a blast to show and various specialists feel that a past injury from many years ago have lead to his current quirks. The guy is also rather "hot" when driving, but truly a doll who gives me 110% every time I work with him. I feel that he and I are more so a team then ever before, and I am hopeful to see improvement in the ring. He's been driving well with my at home, which is so great to see!
I will be driving him in his normal driving class, as well as trying versatility for the first time ever - I am very excited!

Now my real joy is with my mare this year! She was broke to drive last year, and we were just more or less learning one another's driving style. I had grown used to driving a well broke, "hot" gelding with a few quirks, however while my mare had an attitude at times, she was much quieter and slower in harness and very green. We also moved back and forth from CPD and WCPD as not all shows offered WCPD. Together we were really learning the basics and building a foundation. This year, I dedicated most of my time to work with her. I knew it was more of a case of miles then anything else, and that is just what we worked on. I also promised to ONLY enter WCPD, so that I was not to send mixed signals in what I was asking of her. Together, we have made much improvement in a little amount of time and I can hardly wait to bring her out again. I feel we have made great improvement in all areas. I am really very thrilled with my girl as she has worked so hard for me. Our last few drives have been perfect! Her manners are second to none. All of my family is extremely impressed with our progress! I know my girl is still very green and goosey, but I am very proud of her improvements! I really just wanted to share
She will be showing in driving, versatility and a little halter too. I'll still be happy not matter how we place

And a special Thank You to Lori Rafter, once again for breaking both my awesome driving horses! You have 3 very happy clients here! If anyone is looking to have their horses trained RIGHT, Lori is the only way to go. Both my horses have great manners and are safe and sane in the cart. And I am one happy mommy, as that is what is most important, especially with such a dangerous sport!
Now although there is no one new or fancy on my show string, I am still thrilled with my two horses and am looking forward to another great year with my gang.
