Hello

I purchased a 4 year old beautiful appy stallion a couple of weeks ago, thought i MIGHT RAISE A BABY FROM MY NEAR LEOPARD MARE. Well shes in heat and hes not at all interested. He ran with geldings and a couple of other stallions since being weaned. Any suggestions ?

Maybe your mare isn't quite ready just yet?

I always take my que from my stallion. I trust my stallion to know when the time is right.

If you've only had him a couple of weeks, she's probably just not been in heat yet. Maybe "this" will be the week

My stallion had some performance anxiety last season, I consulted with a breeding specialist who told me that when a stallion is unsettled he can seem uninterested in mares, and that stallions around his age (my boy was 5) are particularly prone to it. The problem for my boy was the other horses (male) paddocked next door. He was happy to serve if they werent around!

Perhaps your boy needs a bit more time to settle into his ne home? Good luck with him, I hope he does the deed for you soon!

Studs are pretty savvy too if there might be something wrong... she's not having a 'real' cycle, or perhaps she might have a low grade infection..... things like that. I find that usually the stallions dont lie- there is some reason why.

Give him time to settle in too and hopefully she will have a good cycle and you will have a nice foal next year?
